everyone knows that fashion week is the place to be & usually designers come in the droves to sign up. well the entire fashion industry is going batshit because only fifty-two designers have signed up to show in the tents this year. last year, a reported eighty-two designers had runway shows within the IMG line up. IMG is the official organizer of the usually jam packed showcase. to give you a better sense of the financial strain designers are trying to avoid i came upon this, as quoted from the wall street journal: ”Runway shows generally cost upwards of $100,000 to put on—renting one of the three Bryant Park venues, which seat between 350 to 1,100, costs between $25,000 and $50,000. While this cost includes furniture, lighting, sound systems and services such as security, the label still has costs such as hair, makeup and model fees to add on. “ damn! & im bitch`n about my PG&E going over $20.oo! & no i aint cheap im just sayn! thats like an escalade to rent the tent! you gotta spend money to make money!
while my ears bleed from hearing yet again that vera wang & betsey johnson wont be showing i think its a great thing for designers like calvin klein & michael kors to continue to show at bryant park. get in where you fit in apparently for justin timberlakes, william rast line- which has never shown in the tents. on a serious note, its not really about doing it big so much as continuing to do it. i think its a wise decesion to adjust to the economic crisis we`re all facing. shows are scheduled for february 13th & 14th – which will be an enormously hectic day for fashion week attendees as they will scatter the city for each showcase. IMG continues to remain understanding of the crisis at hand & is looking for a fourth venue as an alternative. more as this story develops.
