menswear collections: dsquared²
by Jeremy Danté
the summer/spring 2011 menswear collection presented by DSQUARED² displayed a slight disconnection for me. each look was different & collectively there was no solid direction sensed. while bianca balti walked in the beginning of the show & near the end; the collection seemed void of any actual planning or substance. nothing new at all was presented. no form of distinction or even a story was told with the collective of looks- which is usually expected by dean & dan, who make up DSQUARED². most commonly an air of camp comedic value is added to the collections designs presented from dean & dan but here there is very much a lack of creativity. though fair looks are shown, nothing exciting is seen within the collection.
