menswear collections: john galliano, spring
by Jeremy Danté
galliano never leaves an audience without theatrical thrill for his runway shows whether for the house of dior or his own name sake design collections. while i appreciate the showmanship displayed each season, there is a fine line between theatrical & too much. for me, the over dramatized showcase of the summer/spring 2011 menswear collection distracts from the clothes. when looking at the clothes, if the stage make-up & elaborate set were removed, wouldn’t be much. i continue to respect galliano as an artist but cannot ignore when creative elements are overlooked. we aim to show fashion, not distract from it.
