editorialesque » luisa bianchin + yulia terentieva for vogue japan, beauty

a bold approach to cosmetics is seen for the september beauty supplement of vogue japan. luisa bianchin of DNA models appears alongside yulia terentieva of new york models for this stunning beauty set shot by raymond meier. styled by heathermary jackson, with hair & make-up by david von cannon & makky p., the spread combines classical style & innovative cosmetics beautifully. titled, ‘eye on the prize’- fresh new ideas of eye concentrated cosmetic application is seen & inspiringly captured. both luisa & yulla are still significantly under the radar in terms of model presence, though luisa has had noted editorial & campaign presence appearing for the likes of american vogue, dazed & confused & tush, as well as appearing for campaigns for topshop & charles david. as for yulia, she’s developed an editorial presence landing covers for russian elle, british elle & V magazine; as well as making a runway cameo for calvin klein’s resort 2012 show. while i would’ve liked to see more interaction between the two; the mod inspiration of the spread is executed sharply & creatively.

edita vilkeviciute for numéro china

represented by DNA models, edita vilkevicute is one of my favorite female models for her natural beauty. showcased in the form of pure beauty, edita lands the august cover of numéro china through the lens of kai z. feng. at first glance, the cover seemed uninspired, boring & expected; given the past of numéro, they are notorious for black & white cover shots which for me can be come very one note. i understand the need to represent visual signatures but value versatility just as much. in presenting the cover along with edita’s feature editorial, the single shot hold more value in representing natural beauty & high end jewelry. from her bone structure to her dark lip, the feature editorial & edita are photographed beautifully by feng. i like the combination of greyscaled images & colored shots, the images that show edita with full make-up & the other plain shots; as one note as the cover may seem, the feature delivers that versatility that this issue’s cover lacks. overall, a stunning showing by edita. a well deserved cover & valued photographic performance. while i love fashion, i love the beauty focus here.

editorialesque » raquel zimmermann for vogue china

styled by nicolette santoro, raquel zimmermann of DNA models appears stunningly through the lens of willy vanderperre for the august issue of vogue china. in discussing the level of consistency shown with vogue china, this spread is a prime example of that. when reviewing editorial i look for quality of grooming, cohesion of theme & model casting. photographic talent is a given, because that ultimately makes or breaks a photographic spread. i love the work of willy vanderperre & always admire his showcase of darker elements of glamour through polished direction. a strong fusion of classical & progressive design aspects, python is a large trend for the fall & here it is beautifully photographed. as rebellious & modern as the styling pieces are- i love how strict raquel appears. the balance of classic & modern is done perfectly- it’s all very inspiring.

editorialesque » jerry fu + philip huang for numéro homme china

for the pages of numéro homme china, jerry fu of major models is joined by philip huang of DNA models for this he & his themed editorial. vibrant colors & a poolside backdrop are seen through the lens of mei yuan as the spread is seemingly based on a gay couple. i love that numéro homme china is taking a creative approach at representing gay couples, being that many publications almost never represent male/male couples. styled by joseph carle, jerry & philip are seen with matching prada outfits & fedora caps as prints, patterns & color contrasts take center stage of the editorial. everything down to the furnishings appear as complimentary to the bold palette seen in the selected pieces & photographically, i love this editorial. numéro homme china is flourishing incredibly well from creative aspects to model castings in a short amount of time. colorfully inspiring.

editorialesque » raquel zimmermann for vogue paris

through the lens of david sims, raquel zimmerman  of DNA appears darkly chic for the pages of vogue paris, for the publication’s june issue. styled in all black by beat bollinger, i love how movement was captured & am tremendously inspired by the use of both black & white, as well as colored photography. as one of my favorite editorial female models, raquel has mastered the art of modeling from a super extension. while some of the pieces throughout the editorial are much more minimal, stylistically, movement of the clothes & how it’s captured on film are what make this spread special. the studio backdrop seemingly compliments the simplicity of the clothes as raquel demonstrates true model versatility, transforming from one frame to the next, one page to the next. incredible styling & beautifully executed, this is editorial i love to see.

editorialesque » edita vilkeviciute for numéro

looking more like an artists exhibit than a fashion editorial, numéro continues to raise the bar of high end editorial. shot by camilla akrans, i am always imaginatively impressed by the photographic presence of edita- she remains one of my favorite females & her features are stunning. represented by DNA, edita can also be recognized for her spring campaign with calvin klein, in which she appears for the labels swimwear & white label collection. seen for campaign spots with blumarine & H&M, edita ranks as fashion’s no. 18 female model while locking down the no. 11 rank for sexiest. whether a cover or editorial spread, edita is always stunning & here we see that with clear indication. i love the use of color & the aesthetic of camilla akrans is a fitting form of perfection along with edita’s photographic poise. of lithuanian nationality, edita killed this spread & i am once more inspired. the bleached brow, the over extension of the cat eye- executed perfectly with a modern, pop-art twitst.

editorialesque » emily baker for vogue china

shot by daniel jackson, new model face emily baker appears editorially for the pages of vogue china. shot for the publication’s may issue, baker appears styled by marie chaix in the spread which focuses upon elongated design lines. baker’s lean physique & sleek facial features balance perfectly with the selected fashion pieces seen in the spread. from the warm toned lighting to baker’s beautiful blonde locks- im loving the simple elements of the spread; it’s not overdone & it’s almost as if emily’s own presence is complimenting the clothes rather than distracting us from them. represented by DNA models, emily hails from new zealand & has already began making a name for herself through runway bookings for viktor & rolf, hakaan, alexander wang, miu miu, calvin klein, altuzarra & alexander mcqueen- which isn’t bad considering that was her first season on the catwalk. also represnted in london, paris & milan- i can definitely see baker giving some of these girls a run for their money. first you kill it on the runway & then you conquer editorial- from there, campaigns & contracts can’t be far behind.

british vogue’s royal wedding issue

what yo’ name iz? natalia vodianova, lara stone, freja beha erichsen

for their first ever cover series, vogue UK takes part in celebrating the royal wedding by enlisting mario testino to shoot three stunning covers of three of fashion’s supermodels- two of which are british themselves. represented by DNA models, natalia vodianova appears in the first cover while both lara stone & freja beha erichsen of IMG appear in the following. an aesthetic relativity is seen in all three covers, as the theme of romance is well translated with words floating about; “catherine middleton: the making of a modern princess”, “fashion to fall in love with”, ”true romance”. from vision to styling, quintessential wedding elements are combined perfectly & with the royal wedding just weeks away; it’s safe to say that the world is watching britain right now. poetic, soft & ultra feminine- the covers & cast are both equally as lovely. this is so fucking lovely, isn’t it?

editorialesque » david gandy for vogue hommes international

tapping into nautical masculinity, david gandy stars in this l’homme du pacifique themed editorial for the pages of vogue hommes international. shot by jack pierson with styling by anastasia barbieri, the spreads showcases classic style while david is seen casually & still every so sophisticatedly dressed  while on a yacht. groomed by rudi lewis, david again appears handsome as expected. represented by DNA models, david is the no. 2 highest earning male model working in fashion today. his body of work includes a range of undeniably gorgeous performances for some of fashion’s biggest & best. here, gandy proves that he is a leading male model & holds his own both confidently & stylistically. i always expect refined style from vogue hommes international & am never dissapointed. from the styling to the model down to david’s grooming- it’s all perfect.

editorialesque » baptiste giabiconi for numéro homme

baptiste giabiconi expectedly appears with his fashion mentor at his side for the pages of numéro homme. styled by serge girardi, baptiste is shot against a white studio backdrop channeling a bit more of a rugged direction. the ‘killimandjaro’ themed editorial takes safarian & animal printed menswear elements of the spring collections & combines them with baptiste’s near perfect mug. represented by DNA models, baptiste giabiconi hold the top spot among the male models in the industry, greatly credited to lagerfeld who has single handedly allowed giabiconi’s rise to fame to take place. the constant collaboration of lagerfeld & giabiconi is becoming stale & lacks innovation, variation & any real sense of surprise. while i understand that a chemistry must be felt between the two, fashion & editorial are about transformation, about adapting to change not opposing it. a bit of photographer variation in baptiste’s portfolio would go along way. that said, the spread achieves it’s style mission.
