givenchy spring couture model identification

as the house of givenchy continues to lead the pack with a brilliantly executed design direction for the SS11 haute couture season, 10 asian female models were cast in this stunning set of couture & models. the influence asia has projected onto the international fashion market in the last six months is staggering, with high end luxury retailers opening stores in the droves, this collection by ricardo tisci solidifies the height of this era. while some females that were cast are, or should be familiar, a few new faces are seen as well; liu wen is seen in the back row, third from left & has made history as the first east asian female model to book an estee lauder contract. while tao okamoto has blazed trails in fashion as a prominent japanese female model since she was signed to elite back in 2006. since then tao has signed with ford. fei fei sun, shu pei, jian xiao 7 so young kang have all appeared here along with editorial appearances for numero china & numero tokyo. this is a historical move for models of color & a beautiful concept that was exectuted wonderfully. one thing i admire & respect of the house of givenchy is their fearlessness to break barriers. beautiful details can be seen from a distance & this is a first look at the complete SS11 collection. a beautiful preview, completely inspiring. i am completely stunned & intensely inspired.

valerija kelava for jil sander navy, spring
in allowing fashion to become more wide spread & available to all, many designer labels are resorting to other opportunities to produce moderately priced goods on the heels of retailers like H&M, zara & forever 21. the jil sander solution to this issue is the release of jil sander navy, which is a lower-priced capsule collection that is an additional component to the jil sander empire. through the lens of david sims, the debut campaign for the capsule collection stars ford model, valerija kelava. seen in black & white with a bold red backdrop, the image showcases that the price tag won’t affect the creative worth of the collection through advertising. while i personally associate hard core simplicity with the jil sander label, the image speaks to me, stylistically. thought not completely polished, there is a feel of organized chaos that i love with this campaign. great execution.

in a stunning showing of photography, the release of the dolce & gabbana coffee table book, uomini is definitely a sight to see. a collective of beautifully shot black & white images allow the male form to take center stage. represented by ford models, the men seen in this exclusive preview provide just enough taste for you to understand the visual impact of this book. shot entirely by mariano vivanco, the book is now available for pre-order both in store & online through digital retailers. published on trough rizzoli, the book is a visual exploration through the dimensions of masculinity. in celebrating their 20th anniversary, the book serves as a commemorative for the dolce legacy; a legacy which has been headlined by some of fashion’s best male models. the book also features tony ward, david gandy, doug porter & noah mills- which should be very familiar to my veteran readers.

shot by justin wu, francisco lachowski appears on the cover of fiasco’s black & white issue. seen representing a combination of style directions, including tribal, athleticism & country boy chic- francisco is one of my favorite fresh face male models in the game. having an incredible year in 2010, i am eager to see which moves he will be making in the new year as well as the FW11 men’s fashion week show season, which is approaching nearer each day. represented by ford models & of italian nationality, lachowski ranks no. 35 within the top 50 male models of fashion. a great selection suitable for a cover.

tom ford continues to shine, both on the cover & behind the lens for the december issue of french vogue. ford photographed crystal renn of ford models for this imaginative fashion spread that capitalizes on extreme beauty. titled, la panthère ose, crystal renn appears as a fabulous post-op plastic sugery patient & unveils her face in a timely fashion, slowly, shot-by-shot. styled by carine roitfeld, ford & the editor in chief still prove themselves to be a winning combination of style, imagery & creative direction. as a great finish to the year of 2010; i am beyond impressed by the concept of the spread as well as it’s execution. crystal renn has been quite the favorite of french vogue. one of my favorite spreads. a beautiful representation of extremes.

represented by ford models, crystal renn appears for the december issue of harper’s bazaar. through the lens of paola kudacki, renn appears minimally styled against a simple studio backdrop. while the black & white shots showcase much more depth, i appreciate the cleanliness in direction. structured lines, casual silhouettes & mindful attention to accessories, the spread is a great representation of fashion’s current direction. less is definitely more, as seen here. crystal ranks no. 30 within the top 50 female models of fashion & has steadily made her presence known in high fashion this year. through editorial & campaign bookings, renn has appeared in campaign images for jean paul gaultier & chanel, while also booking regular editorial spots with vogue paris & V magazine. considered a plus sized model, crystal is a trailblazer.

shot by lachlan bailey, ming xi appears editorially for the december issue of vogue china. represented by ford models, ming has become a favorite at the house of givenchy, walking for the houses haute couture show in january & also walking the runway of the labels ready-to-wear show this past march. styled entirely in black, the spread showcases pieces in leather, lace & feathers. i love the concept of the spread & how it is translated through every element within the spread. the studio backdrop compliments the dark styling extremely well. im very excited to see that so many new faces are being embraced by high end fashion. china is definitely on the come up from models to economy. dope concept, sharp styling.

represented by ford models, mayara rubik marchi appears for the november cover of elle mexico. through the lens of alexander neumann, mayara is seen radiantly against a white studio backdrop in rich red tones & striking use of lighting. since her debut on the modeling scene in early 2009, mayara has been seen for calvin klein’s white label presentation, as well as editorial spots for teen vogue & french revue des modes. for the resort 2011 season, she appeared in look book images for alexander wang’s collection & walked for bill bass & yigal azrouël this past spring, during show season. of brazilian nationality, mayara is a fresh face in fashion & is steadily making her presence known in the world of modeling.
