spring collections: sachin + babi, new york

the SS11 sachin + babi womenswear collection fuses flowerchild chic with progressive design construction. while the palette is essential for spring, we see flowered prints with shots of red & fuschia, as well as a few black & white pieces contrasted with a few pale oranges. though interestingly conceptualized, i find that the collection palette takes away from the collection’s ability to truly shine.  while im sure other collections this season will use powerful colors & bright burst of contrast, perhaps this collection will prove to be a separation from what other designers are showing. the strength of this collection is the construction.

fall menswear, runway: raf simons

the raf simons FW10 collection presented a solid collection filled with futuristic construction. color blocked garments seperated the raf simons collection from other minimally designed menswear sets.  clean lines were a main theme, much like the rest of the collections we’ve seen this season. a fair collection, most of the concepts were executed well & though some risks were taken- the simons style signature was clearly pronounced throughout the collection.

runway images: michael angel, ss collection

michael angel opened new york fashion week with his first collection.  alexander mcqueen-esque prints dominated his collection this season & cato van ee opened his runway presentation. i like the future forward construction but worry that the collection is too drenched in prints. it doesnt seem to provide enough variety & in an industry with diane von furstenberg, matthew williamson & alexander mcqueen (as of lately) can an entire collection sell a truck load of prints?im waiting to see what mr. angel has up his sleeve aside from prints.
