shot by regan cameron, wang xiao stars in the november beauty supplement for vogue china. represented by wilhelmina models, wang is of chinese ethnicity & has already made a noticeable mark in high end fashion through editorial bookings since she rushed the doors of the fashion modeling scene in 2010. serving as the cosmetic canvas for vogue china’s beauty supplement, james kaliardos was able to bring to life a cool grey palette which was then balanced stylistically with pulls of fur which were styled by catherine litke. wang is one of many asian models who are making waves in fashion & with her sleek features, she sets herself apart through editorial & beauty spreads like this. with over 16 major editorial bookings already under her belt, wang is also a featured face for the fall cK one fragrance & cK jeans advertising campaigns.

lara stone for vogue japan

represented by IMG models, lara stone appears for the november cover of vogue japan. plastered on the cover behind the words, ‘dress to impress’ – lara’s frame is gripped by givenchy as a bold lip & sleek hair deliver a fashion image worthy of worship. ranking as fashion’s no. 1 female model in fashion, lara is of dutch/english heritage & was discovered in paris at the age of 12. consistently, each season, lara continues to dominate all aspects of high fashion including runway, high end editorial & is a vital force with fashion ad campaigns. as we approach this years end, it seems as though lara is unstoppable & her rank is written in, yes, stone. love this cover, as it is a complete contrast to her feature editorial.

rihanna for british vogue, november

through the lens of alasdair mclellan, rihanna blazes the cover of vogue uk for the month of november. from kanye debuting on the runways of paris with his collection to this, there is a greater power that is pulling me closer to fashion during what has seemed to be a lull in my own personal interest. beautifully blonde & in armani privé on the cover- rihanna continues to dominate while on tour, internationally & currently recording the follow-up to her “loud” album. shortly after the release of her “we found love” single, this cover appears & im sure that rihanna’s fan base is ready to attack. my jaw literally dropped after seeing this cover & im exceptionally impressed with the cover shot, the styling, the choice to shoot her blonde- all creative elements work perfectly. im completely blown away by how beautiful this came out. ladies & gentlemen, this is a cover.

natasha poly for russian vogue, september

shot by hedi slimane, russian supermodel natasha poly graces the cover her native of russia for their version of vogue. with what appears to be an overextension of cosmetic application, the cover is a sneak peak at the feature editorial, which stars poly & focuses on dramatized make-up with all sorts of theatricality. represented by women model management, natasha is of the supermodel new school & is a beast when it comes to runway bookings, campaigns and, as evidenced here, covers. i love to see publications representing with like models for the september covers. you know, british models for british vogue, russian models for russian vogue. it works, the girls represent & it’s always excited to see which girls are selected. though i am a bit dissapointed in the culmination of creative elements of this cover; from what i’ve seen the editorial content from this issue makes up for it. the heavy liner & black fur against the platinum blonde could’ve worked but somehow, it’s not. russian vogue began print in 1998 with editor-in-chief, aliona doletskaya in place & since 2010, victoria davydova has taken the helm. considered the most authoritive fashion publication in russia, the magazine has notoriously listed naomi campbell as a contributing editor & continues to push the creative envelope. between natasha & slimane, this could’ve been better.

kate moss for vogue, september

the level of importance & status symbol that an american vogue cover represents is something very interesting, a paradox of sorts. in the context of fashion & fashion publication, it’s the most anticipated cover of the year. any chick that graces the cover of american vogue is of importance in fashion; as so christened by anna wintour herself. the power of wintour has been greatly documented & at this point is of known existence to those inside & outside of the fashion world. often shot by mario testino, which is the case for the september cover this year; british supermodel kate moss appears for the american fashion bible, outfitted in an alexander mcqueen gown & is poised as the magazine’s headlining feature for her wedding- which happened in july. one aspect i despise of american vogue is the fact that models rarely grace the cover. while i understand completely that the american publication market is heavily saturated with the presence of actresses, i wonder if the ‘hollywood it girl’ phase will ever die down. last year, giesle bundchen graced the cover & with kate appearing this year- it’s obvious that american vogue is making a fashion statement with a predictable edge & even less interesting end result. no shade to gisele or kate, by any means; but shouldn’t american based publications represent american girls & more specifically american female models? while fashion kids around the world have hoped for more models on american vogue covers; it seems as though this fulfills that expectation but poorly. represented by IMG, kate remains one of the most powerful model forces in fashion & to see her grace the cover is no surprise to any of us. with 788 pages, im looking forward to the editorial content of this issue. at the end of the day, vogue leads & others follow; i hope that a model resurgence is on the verge for american vogue because half of the american covers i see, i don’t post here for the simple fact that they infringe on the fashion tip im looking to represent. it’s nice to see these hollywood hoes fall back for once. fashion belongs to the models.

editorialesque » raquel zimmermann for vogue china

styled by nicolette santoro, raquel zimmermann of DNA models appears stunningly through the lens of willy vanderperre for the august issue of vogue china. in discussing the level of consistency shown with vogue china, this spread is a prime example of that. when reviewing editorial i look for quality of grooming, cohesion of theme & model casting. photographic talent is a given, because that ultimately makes or breaks a photographic spread. i love the work of willy vanderperre & always admire his showcase of darker elements of glamour through polished direction. a strong fusion of classical & progressive design aspects, python is a large trend for the fall & here it is beautifully photographed. as rebellious & modern as the styling pieces are- i love how strict raquel appears. the balance of classic & modern is done perfectly- it’s all very inspiring.

claudia schiffer for vogue germany

beautifully ageless, claudia schiffer lands the august cover of vogue germany. shot by miles aldridge, the feeling of unbreakable poise, delicate femininity & refined reputation are well translated in a pristine format. as one of the world’s most iconic females of the past two decades, i love seeing classic females still gracing covers & beautifully so. with styling by christiane arp, the cover could not be more perfect in my opinion. i love when publications take a greater initiative to represent their country in selecting models that mirror that nationality. granted, there are very few models that can top ms. schiffer, she remains one of the most successful models; banking a reported $55 million net worth according to forbes magazine. claudia is still a largely visible female working in fashion & can be seen for the FW11 chanel eyewear campaign.

lara stone for vogue paris

one of the most interesting fashion publications to watch, currently, is french vogue. not just for the french association but for the changes that are still very fresh at this mid-way point of the year. under the direction of emmanuelle alt, a resurgence of supermodels has graced the cover & a much more polished direction is seen. from 2001-january 2011, under the direction of carine roitfeld, vogue paris has become synonymous for groundbreaking visuals & parisienne seduction- it’s been about sexual energy & tested limitations. but all that has changed & over time, i like what is seen. while i still did love french vogue the roitfeld way; i very much respect this reestablishment of commercialized glamour that alt has brought back to the forefront. im sure that over time this polish & demure nature will grow old & weary but for the most part, it’s new & fresh for french vogue. shot for the august cover, lara stone appears through the lens of inez + vinoodh in this vintage inspired, salue the troops styled cover shot. much like moss for british vogue, lara stone has become a french vogue cover girl fave in recent years & here she returns to defend her title. considering that this is the august cover & september is looming around the corner; im betting that lara won’t snag two vogue paris covers for two consecutive months so im definitely wondering who’ll be the next chick.

editorialesque » freja beha erichsen for vogue japan beauty

through the lens of alasdair mclellan, freja beha erichsen appears for the june issue of vogue japan, for the publication’s beauty supplement. styled by george cortina, the spread focuses on fashion pieces that  serve well in a beach setting. through make-up done by jeanine lobell, the spread focuses on more subdued elements of cosmetics as freja is seen with a soft pink lip & bronzed shadow. laurent philippon allowed the greater feel of ocean side chic as freja appropriately sports the wet look. overall, the spread is a good addition to freja’s portfolio. much like the post previous, freja is of the new school as well & represents high fashion’s obsession with the androgynous. represented by IMG & as a known favorite of karl lagerfeld, freja steadily remains on top in the fashion game. freja has also cast to appear for chanel’s FW12 campaign, which will debut soon.

editorialesque » willy cartier for schön

represented by success models paris, willy cartier appears editorially for schön magazine. shot in black & white the dark angel themed editorial is brought to life thanks in part to the styling of olo dressing, through the lens of karel losenicky. shot for issue no. 11, you might recognize willy for his presence at the house of givenchy. named one of the illustrious tisci tribe, which is basically a group of individuals hand selected by riccardo tisci to do everything from campaigns to runway, look book images & editorials associated with the house, cartier is also noted as a dancer. of the new school, willy represents this new form of androgyny that agencies & clients alike have favored in the last five years. while i could’ve been more inspired with a greater emphasis on style, im also glad to see willy creating a larger presence on the international editorial circuit. of french nationality, cartier has been seen for few campaigns along with a slew of editorial spots ranging from numéro for GQ style germany.
