mariacarla boscono + andres velencoso sgura for loewe, spring

while mert & marcus continue to dominate the campaign circuit one image at a time, mariacarla of women models & andres of wilhelmina star in the spring campaign for spanish label, loewe. the bold palette of the collection is seen with dark undertones & chic contrast. while the backdrop serves as a connection to the labels heritage, the textiles chosen for the collection allow a greater feel of modernization. styled by katie grand, with make-up & hair by lucia pieroni & paul hanlon; most everything mariacarla is cast in, she fuckn murders. this season, for this campaign, is no different. a powerful combination these two.

karolina kurkova for bottega veneta, spring

appearing for her second ad campaign this season, karolina kurkova appears through the lens of alex pragner for the summer/spring 2011 bottega veneta campaign. represented by IMG, kurkova manages to stay relevant in booking multiple campaigns each season & she also booked the spring max mara campaign. walking for victoria’s secret & consistently booking & blazing high end editorial, internationally- kurkova holds the rank as fashion’s no. 7 highest earning & the no. 19 sexiest. though only a single shot is seen here, the open air shot with the bird flying in the backdrop is a clear indication of the campaigns direction. while bottega venete also boasts acessories- im hoping that more images will surface as the new year progresses. though not spectacular, i can do nothing but respect karolina for as long as she has been in this game & working.

kasia struss for miu miu, spring

through the lens of mert + marcus this stunning image was produced starring kasia struss. represented by women model management, the polish female models is to be joined by querelle jansen & sasha pivovarova for the spring campaign; though those images have not yet been revealed. going from playful to more upscale & mature, the powerful red floor combined with the mirrored backdrop is a sickenly ill accent to the incredible footwear from the collection & allows the printed designs & color blocking of the collection to be seen that much more. mert + marcus are among the best in the business & here they have proven their skill in creating marketable fashion images that attract the art eye as well. beautifully shot.

karlie kloss for dior, spring

represented by next models ny, karlie kloss appears for the spring dior campaign. clad in the iconic fashion houses seaside inspired collection, we see kloss against a teal studio backdrop along with element of the wilderness, including a branch & simulated silhouettes of palm trees. creatively, the fall campaign that kloss did last season had much more style validity for me; that said, the collection was fun & feminine- two elements which are well captured here. shot by steven meisel, this is karlie’s third dior campaign in a row. a feat not many models are able to accomplish, especially so early on in their career.

jean paul gaultier presented his final collection for the house of hermès this season. soft neutrals, stunning black leather & rich orange was seen as the models walked with equestrian boots, riding hats & sleek design lines. the hermès seemingly sticks to its strict design aesthetic; showcasing traditional style & classic design elements. kept clean & almost uniformed to the brands heritage & upscale design archives- the collection presents a strong direction through gaultier’s creative hand.

red carpet glamour in the form of blue, neutral, green & peach toned designs were seen from the elie saab label this season. floral elements as well as the use of sheer & metallic beading were presented for the spring set alongside designs that captialized on the SS11 trend of print. with anja rubik opening the show, sigrid agren, karolina kurkova, toni garrn & constance jablonski followed with karlie kloss closing the show. bold gold accessories were seen in the collection & provided a dope contrast with how soft & feminine the collections gowns were. a wide range of looks was presented from chic blazers to elegantly drapped gowns; sparkling, ethereal, in satin & sheer- the elie saab continues to create undying high end glamour.

spring prêt-à-porter: alexander mcqueen, paris

the spirit of alexander mcqueen was resurrected on the runways of paris fashion week as his creative right hand man, sarah burton presented her stunningly theatrical spring collection. the first womenswear collection presented by burton since the loss of mcqueen himself, i was beyond impressed by how consistent the designs were in respecting what the label has created in the past, conceptually. influence of nature was seen all throughout the collection; use of floral design was blended with elements of wheat & models walked the runway with weaved hairstyles. intricate design, thoughtful concepts & amazing visuals were presented by burton. a splendid set of design following such tragic circumstances. burton’s creative abilities spot on.

spring prêt-à-porter: yves saint laurent, paris

covering all the bases to represent trend for the summer/spring season, yves saint laurent presents a simple palette & a wide range of looks. ruffles, trench coats, & sheer with slight use of print were a few of the elements seen in the collection this season. supermodel force joan smalls opened the show in a white trench with a YSL dark lip- completely stunning are the designs & cuts of each look which completely compliment the female form. was hoping to see edgy use of metallic from the label as they always find creative & new ways to do something a bit unexpected. a strong direction for the spring.

spring prêt-à-porter: giambattista valli, paris

an italian designer based in paris, giambattista valli brings some of his italian style sensibility to the runways of paris fashion week every season. greater minimalism were seen this spring as valli’s design lines appear much more simplified. orange bursts onto the runway in the opening sequence as jacquelyn jablonski walks in a structured plaid dress. frida gustavsson, joan smalls, jac jagaciak, hanne gaby odiele, lindsey wixson & sasha pivovarova were among the models cast for the show as well. i loved the use of hardware on some of the designs & was drawn to the collection’s fusion of classic & futuristic elements. with a palette of white, orange, yellow & beige- the collection was contrasted further with details seen in aqua & leopard print. love the collection for it’s diversified model cast & collection designs. i’ve never seen yellow so beautifully in a collection & literally gasped when seeing joan smalls walk in the yellow gown for runway look fourty.  a promising set for valli, who debuted in paris in 2007. solid direction, fresh ideas with respectful nods to classic style & progressive concept.
