fall collezioni, milan: dsquared2

by Jeremy Danté

industrial elements were incorporated to the FW10 womenswear collection for DSQUARED2, completely pickup up where the labels menswear collection left off. an amazing cast including: carmen kass both opening & closing, iris strubegger, chanel iman, nicola haffmans & jacquelyn jablonski walked the runway in fur, leather & feathers. as we seen the menswear collection covered in blood, the womenswear set takes on that same feel. im not sure if you’ve seen that film hostel, where the characters traveled to this foreign country thinking it would be all fun & partying; only to find out that they ended up at some freakshow of a hostel that hosted victims as offerings to guests that wanted to partake in murder for a million dollar fee. in a more glamourous & less obvious way, thats what this collection reminded me of. aspects of the clothes bring glamour, while still hinting at these dark undertones. i really enjoyed the collections leather pieces; while some pieces were a little extreme, like runway look 20, i admire the exaggeration in use of leather. the butterscotch leather matched to some of the grey wool pieces was completely, head over heels, glamour. structured shoulders were a focus for the collection this season as well. while some of the collections that simulated veins were a bit tacky, other aspects of design, like the corset blazer & thigh high boots, really made up for it. the tuxedo look of runway look 31 really ecompassed the DSQUARED2 style signature while interesting elements like feathers were used as ornamentation for the looks that served as a finale. overall, i was impressed by the ability to translate their concept seen in menswear to what was presented for the fall in womenswear. a solid collection, though not completely perfect.
