lanvin presents signature designs in addition to some new ones with a few familiar faces. within the casting for the collection images we see sessilee lopez alongside vlada roslyakova; the collection is shadowed light & a few of the designs are duplications of what we’ve seen from past seasons. we see the same draping, the same use of neckline with the collection halters & even see head coverings. all elements we’ve seen in just about every collection presented before this one. with one look showcasing an overflow of snakeskin, we see use of metallic & print as well. i have to say; while i commend labels trying to make a further distinction between themselves & other collections- i dont understand this gimmick with having models hop skip & jump in front of the camera lens when im trying to see the clothes- this aspect of the lanvin resort presentation seems far more distracting than the garments themselves. maybe its the photos, maybe its the clothes- im not completely sold on this set, not for the pre-season. i was expecting something more exciting, something i havent seen.
black, white & red all over- the givenchy cruise collection further solidifies the new era of givenchy with chic designs & surprising concepts. use of lace, pure white & powerful red really dominate within the collection. each look is both powerful & interesting; givenchy really leads the way in fashion design & its very apparent even in the cruise 2011 pre-season. while existing signature givenchy designs were expected; i found myself pulled in by the variation from look to look. a stunning set & amazingly clear vision from ricardo tisci- im very, very please with this collection. very well done, by far my favorite of the season.
again tapping into academic youth for their designs, the proenza schouler label creates a really thoughtful resort collection for 2011. while the collection enters with a pop & flash- the collection concepts use print & palette very well. black & navy is threaded all throughout the collection from start to finish with designs that appear as a cross between retro-modern & vintage-glam. the schouler label has really created a solid signature in high end fashion; from their bags to their collection garments- its cohesion, full force- beginning to end. the collection comes out punching with color & ends with a neutral base, but still contains enough depth to hold your interest. grooming is kept simple & low key as casual ponytails are used to remove folicule distraction from what we came to see- the clothes. love the collection, super chic & hella cute.
as we see full results of phoebe philo’s take over & basically reconstruction of the céline brand, the cruise collection produced by the french womenswear label forecasts a renewed vision in design. clean design lines contribute to the minmal elements of the collection, while the use of accessories contributes to the label’s commercial consumer; punches of color in addition to the collections use of print are done very well. the collection successfully accomplishes a role in creating a collection that is forward enough yet still respects the classic notes of style. the collection is simple, chic & stunning.
the resort 2011 collection for nina ricci capitalizes on feminine design details. pink, white & neutral shaded garments appear throughout the collection in the form of dresses & cutesy coats. while much of the nina ricci design approach has become less & less grand; this collection still manages to include beautifully expensive elements. with the drapping & some of the more relaxed silhouettes, the collection manages to capture the brands signature girly girl style while allowing more youthful interest to attract existing & potential clientele. while the use of pink is almost typical, the collection grades fair in comparison to many of the other collections that have debuted this pre-season. is that pink gown not complete devastation though?
