menswear collections: john galliano, fall
by Jeremy Danté
the usual drama was presented by john galliano for his namesake menswear collection today in paris. with an entrance of snow sprinkled looks of fur, bearded men & exotic winter travelers were seen. over the top & imaginative as ever, the collection went from winterwear to formal wear in the second phase of the collection, as models walked the runway with neck scarves against slick tailored garments. leather & fur started to trickle into the show sequence as some of the looks transformed into male ballerina inspired looks that took leotards, leg warmers & knitwear to another level. the collection finished on a high note as heavily embellished pieces were worn, topping off the stylistically avant garde collection with a bang. the vision of galliano is one of the most complex of any designer in fashion; i often allow the collection to settle in my mind because it’s almost like fashion from concentrate. i respect galliano as a creative & his design style is unbelievably brilliant. galliano has a design style all his own & this season those signature are greatly represented. wild vision, obsessive direction & bold concepts.
