fall collections, new york: bcbg by max azria

by Jeremy Danté

sleek, progressive & unendingly chic- the FW11 BCBG womenswear collection surprised me with it’s attention to clean lines & soft structure. in season’s past i have criticized the max azria designed label as being sloppy, lazy & even uneventful but this season i was blown away. while structure was seen in the collections use of geometric color blocking, soft femininity was felt in spirit considering the textiles that had been used. a wide ranged palette of expected dark tones was contrasted to use of cobalt blue & neon tones. with models melodie monrose, frida gutavsson & arizona muse walking the runway; i hope that the BCBG label can continue down this path while incorporating new & fresh ideas, much like what was displayed here. strong direction, forward thinking & innovation was felt for this collection today. beautiful design, wonderfully executed.
