fall prêt-à-porter, paris: zac posen

refined & stylized, zac posen presented his FW11 collection on the runways of paris fashion week yesterday. as jourdan dunn opened, coco rocha, karlie kloss, carmen kass, jessica stam, ming xi & crystal renn followed. noticeably more simplified this season, i really loved the collection for it’s fusion of classical & progressive elements. a dark, rich palette allowed each look to possess power on the bodies of each female who was cast. the design lines of the collection were particularly interesting; chic construction was seen throughout. with his signature silhouettes, the collection presented beautiful use of fur & perfect hints of metallics this season. seems like zac is even stronger in paris, since making the move from the runways of new york.

fall collections, new york: reed krakoff

as the creative director of coach, not many are aware of the designer known as reed krakoff. since my discovery of his namesake designer collection, based in new york, i’ve been consistently impressed with krakoff’s approach to design & admire his clean aesthetic. soft architectural lines were complimented to subtle use of print, metallics, satin, leather & fur. i love the collections coats & am very impressed by the new methods of construction within the set- innovation is matched perfectly to classical elements while both blend well perfectly. as a minimalist myself, i love this collection for it’s undeniable style. from elegant formal looks in the form of gowns to the chic casual styles presented in the form of knitwear; a wide range of looks is seen. with kasia struss closing & opening the show, jacquelyn jablonski, jourdan dunn, ajak deng, karolina kurkova, alla kostromichova, aline weber, anais mali, ming xi & sigrid agren were also among this season’s cast.

fall collections, new york: y-3

created in black & white, with red accents, the Y-3 fall collection taps into progressive concepts & forward fashion elements along with a stunning cast. fei fei sun opened the show as jac jagaciak, hanne gaby odiele, jacob coupe, mark cox, ajak deng, frida gustavsson, constance jablonski, mathias lauridsen, liu wen, tao okamoto, lasse pedersen, clement chabenaud & armando cabral followed in the 60 look collection. the Y-3 collection is yohji yamamoto’s modernized approach to design with a usually dark aesthetic. this season, in a sea of black, elements of white & khaki were seen but for the most part, the collection remained dimmed through palette. plaid was seen in the collection as well along with few shots of grey & blue. overall, the collection is one of great direction & solid execution. nothing too spectacular, but it’s an overall fare presentation.

fall collections, new york: g star raw

driven by denim, the G star raw collection is one of inspiring direction & well executed concepts. a chic blue palette was applied to both menswear & womenswear designs this fall & i really liked what was presented. progressive use of leather was seen as ajak deng, paolo roldan, armand cabral, siri tollerod & r’el dade walked the runway. everything from winter capes to padded sweaters were seen as a wide range of innovative concepts were seen. i was pleased at what was designed this season as much more creativity was felt; a wide range of silhouettes was seen & the styling of the show was visually stunning. i applaud the g star label this season, a beautifully creative & strong direction was taken this season. great cast & dope design.

fall collections, new york: nicole miller

bold blues, stoned greys & black looks filled the FW11 nicole miller runway show. as cameos of red entered the collection palette, progressive construction was seen in the use of metallic, suede & leather. while much more fashion forward concepts were seen within this collection, in comparison to seasons past; i did not agree with the use of print. the use of print seen within the collection made the concepts feel dated & in a sense, forcefully innovative; the collection could’ve been much more powerful through simplicity had that aspect been removed. models ajak deng, tao okamoto, siri tollerod & rose cordero were seen in this season’s cast as alana zimmer both closed & opened the show. i’ve had my eye on the nicole miller since being blown away by the label’s pre-fall collection & admire many moves the label has made in an effort to become more modernized in this new digital age of fashion. their FW11 show was live streamed from new york & the label has created a successful twitter account, as well as a tumblr account & facebook fan page- which allows the brand to become more involved with consumers. in my attraction to the labels pre-fall collection, little use of print was seen & my attraction was more greatly concentrated on the simplicity of the seen concepts. within this collection, a further development of similar concepts that are much more structured is recognized. overall, the collection is one of strong direction, with few questionable choices. created in 1994, i recognize the potential that the miller label has to becoming much more progressive & more stunningly, creatively. with what was presented for fall, in this collection- i loved the styling, the use of layers & the collections coats had an inter-galactic feel that drew me in. displayed in some of the collections coats were the same elongated, almost exaggerated silhouettes that i really loved as well. i would like to see greater forms of power through simplicity, as much of the fashion market is preying on the art of minimalism.

fall shwpckg: img models, new york

one thing is known in the world of modeling & in the universe we know as fashion- IMG represents the big girls. & when i say big girls im not talking measurements. as the agency that represents living icons in their special bookings division; naomi campbell, gisele bundchen, trya banks, heidi klum & kate moss in particular- not many agencies will ever be able to attain the professional reputation or industry respect that has been earned by IMG models, internationally. with a global board of over 100 represented female models, 36 of those women currently rank within the top 50 models of fashion. females ajak deng, aminata, alek wek, barbara palvim, chanel iman, du juan, frida gustavsson, jac jagaciak, heidi mount, jessica miller, joan smalls, karolina kurkova & lily donaldson have all had noted success in the fashion industry through campaigns, editorial & runway bookings. of all the agencies in the world, IMG is the one to beat. just about every desired face working in fashion is on the IMG roster. while model favorites have never been kept a secret here, joan smalls is one special case that i am constantly in tune to on the runway & off; her rise to fame & seemingly overnight success is one of fashion dreams & im very happy to see that she has been warmly recieved by high end fashion. her bookings for the spring alone are inspiringly great as we’ve seen her appear for italian vogue, gucci, stella mccartney, roberto cavalli & is a regular in the prestigious american & french vogue editorial circuit. as the face of estee lauder, smalls will star in international campaigns this year & her star is definitely one of outstanding strength not just in new york but in every fashion capital around the world. these are the names & faces you know, love & admire. i wish every IMG girl success, not just in new york, but for the whole of show season. let the games begin!

in a powerhouse cast of just about every bad bitch in the game, american vogue flexes it’s model casting muscle for the february 2011 issue while highlighting new york based designers. through the impeccable styling vision of grace coddington, mario testino shoots a perfected set of images that represent the essence of vogue. in honor of my female model friday concept, i felt it very necessary to save this spread for posting & present it to those who have not seen it, today. each model is perfectly matched to each design collection & im blown away by how powerful the cast is. it looks like vogue is swinging into the new year, full force. with hair & make-up byorlando pita & linda cantello the spread, the cast alone- speaks for itself.
