editorialesque » alana zimmer for muse

represented by ford models, alana zimmer appears editorially & stunningly for the pages of muse magazine. shot by danielle + inago, alana showcases versatility through style & switches it up while going from a ‘fro to a sleek up-do. clad in some of spring’s most femininely chic pieces, zimmer is a mainstay in the modeling industry & has garnered respect in the game for her consistent photographic performances & hard hitting bookings. originally from ontario, canada- you might recognize alana from her wide range of editorial work or more specifically for her campaign work- last fall alana appeared as the face of elie tahari, the gap, margaret howell, MAC & nicole miller. stunning images & beautiful styling allow alana to come alive in her most fashionable form. i love alana’s sleek facial features & admire her as a cross between commercial beauty & modernized model standards. whether editorially, on the runway or when booking campaigns- alana kills it every single time.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: jean paul gaultier

as a testament to his creative reputation, jean paul gaultier is a leader of the pack with an individualized perception of vision & fashion theatricality. this season, gaultier plays with the concept of age & interestingly so. as the world of fashion tethers between age appropriate styling & models on the runway as 15yrs. old- gaultiers takes it to the next level with his granny chic Fw11 collection. models frida gustavsson, karlie kloss, alana zimmer, sessilee lopez, karolina kurkova, jourdan dunn, coco rocha & joan smalls were amonst the cast  that walked the runway with grey bee hive wigs clad in gaudy print, chic coats, plaid & suede. overall, the gauliter collection pokes fun while truly representing more modestly aged designs. i would’ve like to see something more fresh & something a bit more refined- in terms of vision, the collection & direction are translated perfectly.

fall collections, new york: nicole miller

bold blues, stoned greys & black looks filled the FW11 nicole miller runway show. as cameos of red entered the collection palette, progressive construction was seen in the use of metallic, suede & leather. while much more fashion forward concepts were seen within this collection, in comparison to seasons past; i did not agree with the use of print. the use of print seen within the collection made the concepts feel dated & in a sense, forcefully innovative; the collection could’ve been much more powerful through simplicity had that aspect been removed. models ajak deng, tao okamoto, siri tollerod & rose cordero were seen in this season’s cast as alana zimmer both closed & opened the show. i’ve had my eye on the nicole miller since being blown away by the label’s pre-fall collection & admire many moves the label has made in an effort to become more modernized in this new digital age of fashion. their FW11 show was live streamed from new york & the label has created a successful twitter account, as well as a tumblr account & facebook fan page- which allows the brand to become more involved with consumers. in my attraction to the labels pre-fall collection, little use of print was seen & my attraction was more greatly concentrated on the simplicity of the seen concepts. within this collection, a further development of similar concepts that are much more structured is recognized. overall, the collection is one of strong direction, with few questionable choices. created in 1994, i recognize the potential that the miller label has to becoming much more progressive & more stunningly, creatively. with what was presented for fall, in this collection- i loved the styling, the use of layers & the collections coats had an inter-galactic feel that drew me in. displayed in some of the collections coats were the same elongated, almost exaggerated silhouettes that i really loved as well. i would like to see greater forms of power through simplicity, as much of the fashion market is preying on the art of minimalism.

editorialesque » top models become high fashion art

what yo’ name iz? abbey lee kershaw, anja rubik, karlie kloss, maryna linchuk,
constance jablonski, alana zimmer, valerija kelava, shu pei & karmen pedaru

displaying an elevated level of artistry, top female models in the game appear editorially for the SS10 issue of 25 magazine. shot by marcin tyszka, styling for the art-inspired spread was orchestrated by  barbara matelo. stylistically fusing fashion models to mixed media art forms, the blending of creative concepts was enhanced with the illustrations of tomek sadurski. i love the spread & maryna linchuk in image no. 4 is my favorite by far. a completely fresh approach to editorial. completely inspiring.

editorialesque » alana zimmer for vogue italia beauty

represented by ford models, alana zimmer appears for the april beauty supplement for italian vogue. shot by greg lotus, i love the editorial setting & the contrast of inanimate objects to further enhance the showcase of beauty. the dope thing about alana is her extended form & stretched silhouette. while many aspects of the spread are done beautifully, i was surprised that opportunities to do some dope close-up shots of alana were not taken. for the most part, the spread tries too drastically to incorporate the setting in which alana appears. i love the visual but question the choice of this location, particularly, for a beauty spread. all that aside, the images are beautifully dark & showcase depth well.

alana zimmer + marike le roux for sonia rykiel

horst diekgerdes shot alana zimmer of supreme model management & marike of wilhelmina models for the spring sonia rykiel campaign. the rykiel signature of bold colors was showcased against a dark garden & i love the contrast completely. while this is one of marike’s first major campaigns, alana has appeared in past campaigns for akris, lacoste, anne klein, DKNY, gaultier denim, max mara, topshop & moschino.
