fall collections, new york: elie tahari

romanticized with lace, the elie tahari FW11 collection was beautifully designed & presented on the runways of new york fashion week yesterday. high end details & refined concepts were seen as the collections overpowering black designs faded to an immaculate set of white. leopard printed trench coats were seen alongside fur, embellished blouses & an interesting fusion of digitally screen animal print was created for the collections gowns. creatively inspiring & jaw dropping beautiful whites allow the collection to soar for me- from white the palette became entrangled in a warm set of brown & caramel tones which eventually boiled to red, which closed the collection palette. there is a certain air of fearlessness felt this season from the tahari label this season; a great collection & strong set of looks that are beautifully designed.

fall collections, new york: donna karan

stoned greys ruled the FW11 color palette of donna karan. models walked the runway with a soft powder pink lip & more sophistication was felt this season with a familiar style direction. with the high bunned hairstyles, signature donna karan drapping, sleeved dresses & use of fur the collection was more lanvin by albert elbaz than donna karan. brown tones were introduced into the collection after the greys cooled & though beautiful, i could not distract myself from the hard hitting comparisons of lanvin. the donna karan label is one i respect greatly & more often than not, i expect sophistication & represented signatures to set them apart from other new york based designers. as a leading designer in the brand, i am a bit dissapointed that many of these concepts were seen in paris, on the runway, from another fashion house. no doubt a beautiful campaign will be shot & the collection will sell, given it’s undeniable beauty. creatively, the collection is unoriginal.

sophie holmes for nicole miller, spring

through the lens of robbie fimmano, sophie holmes appears strikingly for the SS11 nicole miller campaign. represented by IMG models, sophie has appeared in scattered editorial & campaign spots since she arrived on the model scene in 2006. greyscaled images with white hot lighting were created for the spring season, intended on thrusting the miller label into the high fashion stratosphere, even greater, by becoming a larger influence in american fashion. established in 1982, the brand has been making impressively creative moves through design & direction; as so greatly demonstrated here. i love the images & can feel a larger influence of new age minimalism, an aesthetic that has had a rapid effect on  fashion.

collection images: luca luca, pre-fall

creatively directed by raul melgoza since 2008, the luca luca label caters to fashion concious high society women & for the pre-fall 2011 season continues to serve on that level. with classically refined pieces, the luca luca collection is one of solid direction & thoughtful concept. i loved the shots of red throughout the milky fall palette of cream & soft blue. with fall it’s almost expected that designers feel more void of color & even though dark designs were seen at the entrance & close of the collection sequence, i was very satisfied with the more soft & subtle areas of color within the mid-section of the womenswear set. providing luxury womenswear for a certain kind of women, the collection holds value through current trend & taps into a greater realm of style longevity as well. the coats to the skirts & the use of fur were all done in a very sophisticated manner; but was still kept fresh with modern edge. an overall strong collection with a bit of palette opposition for the fall.

david agbodji for calvin klein collection, fall

represented by request models, david agbodji set publications across the globe on fire with with his SS10 calvin klein collection campaign. while this season his returns, the level of overt sexuality shown through the images is a bit more controlled. shot by steven klein, the images manage to capture texture in a very chic & understated manner. while the calvin klein label is very much a leader in minimal fashion design, the campaign further exposes david to the masses, which is beyond amazing. though clean, the images channel a bit more edge than last season & im very pleased. among the top male models, david ranks no. 7

lara stone for calvin klein collection, fall

represented by IMG, lara stone appears for the fall/winter 2010 ad campaign for american design label calvin klein, for the labels high end division. shot by mert + marcus, many of the other big fashion houses in both paris & milan have opted for a greyscaled palette this fashion season. with the economic crisis close, many labels have scaled back- & i feel that the choice to do a black & white campaign is evidence of that. classic, clean & refined design are all elements of the modern era of calvin klein- stone looks sharply chic with her slicked back hair, bleached brows & contoured cheek bones. simple & stunning.
