russian harper’s bazaar celebrates fifteen years with fifteen covers

celebrating 15 years in print, harper’s bazaar russia releases 15 commemorative covers. covers by karl lagerfeld, ralph lauren, moschino, viktor & rolf, diane von furstenburg, dolce & gabbana, antonio marras, armani, cavalli, sonia rykiel, jean paul gaultier, missoni, michael kors, versace & pucci are all seen in this post, as each allow their own individualized signatures to shine through. 15 years in the game is significant & i love that harper’s bazaar is always pushing the envelope as far as covers are concerned. they really capitalized, internationally, when they created special subscriber’s edition covers & separate newsstand editions. while creating subscription incentive, they double their mark of creativity by selecting two dope images rather than the standard of one. while many believe that fashion publications are slowly being phased out; i always say that nothing compares to see incredible images on high gloss paper. here’s to harper’s bazaar russia for many more years to come.

fall couture collections: giorgio armani privé

as karlie kloss closed the FW10 privé runway show, i came away from the collection feeling like i had been gipped. isnt the point of couture to go outside of the stereotypical design norm? at the entrance of the collection i felt as though someone mistakenly mixed the collection up under the haute couture collections for fall. but in checking the script above, i read it correct; ‘haute couture’. entrance garments of the collection presented blazers & what seemed to me like work attire- garments that i dont particularly look for during couture season. while impressive details were shown in draping- not much distinguished this collection as couture when held in comparison to armani’s giorgio armani ready-to-wear, womenswear collections. the palette presented was typically fall; rich browns & golden tones leaked through each garment look after look. as the collection drew to a close a few gowns were show & i was expecting something much more jaw-dropping to appear- but i was haulted in my expectation as i seen armani himself closing with his hand waving in the air. the collection produced simple silhouettes & nothing particularly imaginative. there was seemingly no effort put into allowing emphasis on design details & that is a grave dissapointement. its collections like this that allow the general public, fashionably knowledgeable or not, to think that anyone can call anything couture. this issue goes beyond this collection & beyond shade from my review- it goes back to the legacy of couture & the essence of imaginative design. this is no way shape or form a collection that should be presented during couture season. though great ready-to-wear designs are seen- haute couture is not. giorgio, please step ya cookies up.

fall menswear, runway: giorgio armani

the giorgio armani FW10 menswear collection hosts a similar design direction as dolce & gabbana. paper boy caps are replaced with berets for the armani set & similar styles seen in vests are seen throughout the collection. the collection makes an honest effort, but some of the stylistic options taken seem a bit dated or lack a certain element of glamour. that said, what is presented is still sophisticated as many of the armani collections. i wish the label would consult in some creative direction for much more modern techniques & choice in textiles.

fall menswear, runway: emporio armani

the emporio armani collection provides looks for just about every occasion possible. the collection starts with a bit of ski travel attire then winds down to formal looks suitable for an evening out on the town. the ski/snow portion of the collection hosts bright colors, while the evening looks are seen mostly in black with interesting shots of royal blue & purple. a massive collection of nearly one hundred looks; armani threw it all on the runway this season. some of our favorite male models were spotted for this show; were you able to ID them based on the fall show packages?

megan fox for armani underwear, spring

actress, megan fox, replaces victoria beckham as this seasons face of armani underwear. though megan is a beautiful girl, the images are no comparison to what posh brought to the table. shot by mert + marcus in los angeles, the campaigns male counterparts is portuguese soccer star cristiano ronaldo. though i think megan is dope, im more excited to see rolando’s campaign images. im very disappointed with the lack of glamour seen here with megan. i assure you, posh would never.

sean o’pry for emporio armani, spring

sean o’pry of VNY model management ranks as the no. 2 model in the industry. he appears for the spring emporio armani campaign, as seen. i definitely respect sean as a model, but the campaign direction seems a bit lacking. the funhouse reflecting mirrors, in contrast with the image quality of the seen set; seem more editorial than they are campaign worthy. i love the spring armani womenswear campaign & would have liked a similar direction for this campaign as sean is a dope model, whom i expect to deliver. the only major aspect of seperation between simple editorial & campaign images is the logo’ing.
