fall prêt-à-porter, paris: elie saab

in favor of other collections, the elie saab label has opted to go the stella mccartney/phoebe philo route of chic minimalism & stylish structure. internationally known for their dramatic gowns & poetic approach to design, elie saab has been designing since he was 18 years old & launded his beriut-based label in 1982. with a workshop in lebanon, milan & paris- saab represents a sophisticated type of women, one who understands the power of glamour & appreciates a subdued sense of beauty. in palette, the collection drifted from an opening sequence of black designs to a rift of artistic floral prints, down into bouts of red that transformed into marooned plum; from plum the palette shifted into clay tones of beige that leaked into notes of soft neutral leading to the finale, where karlie kloss closed the show. while we’ve seen the skill of design dramatization demonstrated through saab’s couture collection this past january, i love the collection seen here & commend saab’s approach of the understated. a beautiful collection with soft & feminine touches throughout- couldn’t be any more perfect.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: akris

akris is a label that sits at the forefront of modern fashion for me. hailing from switzerland, the akris brand was founded in 1922 & began manufacturing aprons on a simple sewing machine. now, in the present day, akris has transformed into a living, breathing luxury label after being admitted to the french governments chambre syndicale. this season, presented in paris; akris revealed their FW11 collection based in beautiful browns, stunning yellows, red, neutral & deep nautical navy. as a fitting competitor alongside other high end labels that have presented a similar aesthetic of clean lines & structured style; beautiful color & sleek design is seen. velvet, leather & dope branch print was seen throughout the collection that really showcased an inspiring perception of style. sleek leather was seen, allowing the modern feel of the akris label to be even more pronounced. overall, the collection is one of thoughtful design, chic design & undeniable style. one of my favorites this season in paris.

fall collections, london: pringle of scotland

clare waight keller, creative director of pringle of scotland, presented a beautiful fall collection that capitalized on structured style & quintessential glamour pieces of the season. a cool set of greys was seen at the entrance of the set, accents of blue made slight cameos throughout. as the collection progressed, patterns shifted their way through the set as use of fur began to take center stage. rich caramel toned coats added clean & classic appeal, resulting in a perfect balance given the collections hard pressed use of prints. the caramel tones transformed into a set of chocolate twill tones as butterscotch colored  fur was seen alongside a mixed fur piece of black & grey fur, eventually leading to the final tone of the collection palette, red. i loved the color story & the thoughtful elements that allowed each look to be seen singularly while still fitting cohesively. strong direction.

fall collections, new york: elie tahari

romanticized with lace, the elie tahari FW11 collection was beautifully designed & presented on the runways of new york fashion week yesterday. high end details & refined concepts were seen as the collections overpowering black designs faded to an immaculate set of white. leopard printed trench coats were seen alongside fur, embellished blouses & an interesting fusion of digitally screen animal print was created for the collections gowns. creatively inspiring & jaw dropping beautiful whites allow the collection to soar for me- from white the palette became entrangled in a warm set of brown & caramel tones which eventually boiled to red, which closed the collection palette. there is a certain air of fearlessness felt this season from the tahari label this season; a great collection & strong set of looks that are beautifully designed.

fall collections, new york: victoria beckham

season after season, one label im always interested to see is victoria beckham. i think the case of the once posh spice is extremely interesting given the success of her transition from pop star to style icon & now to designer. surprisingly, the beckham label ventures further into the depths of minimalism with a what appears to be influenced by the middle east, 70’s style sensibility & relaxed silhouettes all in one collection. im very impressed by the collection seen this season & admittedly had my share of fears that the beckham label would become a design one note. my fears aside, i adore the concepts & story that is told through this collection. understated through clean design lines, victoria & her design team hit the nail on the head this season. a wide range of looks with understated & still powerful style statements was created this season. an elegant color story was seen as red announced the collections beginning & soon yellow, orange & maroon was soothed into a base of chic earth tones. models walked the runway with head coverings which allowed the clothes to make an even more powerful statement. strong in construction & beautiful by execution, the victoria beckham collection is one that i respect, tremendously.

spring prêt-à-porter: loewe, paris

a beautiful color story was presented during the loewe runway show in paris for the summer/spring 2011 season. pink, yellow, red, aqua, yellow, nude & brown tones were seen in sequence during the collection, which provided a refined sensibility to classic style. crisp design lines were accentuated by the use of anima & floral pring, along with leather & metallic. equipped with a diversified cast including kasia struss, alessandra ambrosio, chanel iman, barbara palvin & jeneil williams- the set hit all the trend bases while not veering off course with the classics. accessories & handbags had a noticeable impact in the collection, as the loewe brand has heritage in leather goods dating back to 1846. versatile & wide ranged from look to look, the set is promising; in that, it delivers more than one option while still managing to remain cohesive collectively.

spring collezioni: max mara, milan

presenting a wonderful color story for the spring which stream lines an opening sequence of neutrals. clean design lines, structure & small colorized accessories are seen at the front end of the collection as the spring season almost sneaks & leaks through use of color as the collection progresses. in the first five looks we see amazing versatile looks from a trench coat to a long skirt, then on to a knee length skirt to a above knee length skirt & a short jumper. after the army of neutrals we see white designs & then in comes the color where yellow, purple & orange play alongside each other & a bit of metallic is used. color capped long sleeve looks are blended with the collections neutral opening & the collection seemingly trails into the next season as we see black designs at the tail end with the use of both horizontal stripes & polka dots. a well executed show sequence & thoughtful use of palette. a very refreshing take for the max mara collection, which has remained in a lull of camel coats for quite a few seasons. looking forward to what the brands campaign & how it will be short editorially.
