with sessilee lopez of major models opening, the christian siriano spring collection takes on a tribal, safarian feel with injections of upper class sophistication. glamourous sheers are matched to siriano’s affinity for constructed drama. while the opening sequence of looks plays on more tamed design concepts, at the close of the collection the gowns appear on fire with ruffles rising from the ground like flames. no doubt, each season, siriano proves that of the project runway contestants he has the most potential to successfully transcend reality tv & land a spot in the high end fashion market. with his collaborative work with payless, he has definitely earned & utilized his commercial exposure. while his television persona is just as famous as his developing style signature, i am pleased with this collection overall.
the christian siriano show was opened & closed by supermodel, sessilee lopez. a predominantly black collection with shots of red, blue, maroon & fuchsia was presented for the FW10 show season. with the personality doses we’ve gotten from siriano through project runway, we know he has a tendency to broadcast drama & exaggerated designs; but this season the collection was pretty tamed. leather, satin & sheer textiles were used in the collection & siriano displays commercially acceptable design concepts. i loved the sense of texture in some of the black pieces as well. a solid showing, though i expected more, creatively.
