editorialesque » natalia vodianova for vogue

represented by DNA models, natalia vodianova glows for the pages of vogue for the american publication’s september issue. through the lens of mert alas & marcus piggot, vodianova appears classically styled by grace coodington. a refined approach to modern edge, the spread takes on a 60’s & i cannot help but utter the name, ‘jackie o.’ when looking at this spread. mert + marcus prove, yet again, that they are a cut above the rest with this spread while it manages to tap into my love for all things classic. with two fall campaigns under her belt already this season, natalia can also be see alongside naomi campbell for givenchy & returns for the stella mccartney campaign; which she appeared for last fall.

fall menswear collezioni, milan: valentino

i’ve had my eye on the valentino label with that much more intensity since valentino, himself, retired. i’ve been waiting in the wings for the labels menswear collection to strike a cord with me, creatively & here we see just that. creative directors maria grazia chiuri & pier paolo piccioli have created a stylish set of clean menswear design fully equipped with sleek lines, classic style & a rich, moody palette. a set of neutrals, varied shades of blue, military shades of green & gold hardware add to the collections chic factor. my love for structured coats was quenched with this collection as wool coats & additions of leather were added to otherwise expected styles, allowing the pieces to take on modernized forms of classical style. a really impressive fusion of forward & timeless fashion. i find direct similarities with this collection & my own existing wardrobe & am beyond thrilled to see that the valentino menswear division back to creating hot shit. i am super, super, super inspired & in love with what was presented this season. my favorite menswear collection of the fall. now if only i could book the campaign..

fall collections, new york: marc jacobs

marc jacobs is a living legend of american design. with an outrageously distinct style signature, marc understands, completely, how to keep a fashion audience on the edge of their seat. admittedly, i have not been too fond of the design direction taken by marc’s namesake collection & don’t particularly love his signature campaign images. that aside, i was stunned this season to see such sophisticated wild style on the runways of new york fashion week. it’s almost contradictory, you see a strict collection of style being projected while the details allow the collection to be more modernized than can properly be explained. an extension of the trend of print that we’ve seen from other collections was magnified & made larger than life as an all-star cast of the best models in fashion walked the runway. i am completely impressed & insanely obsessed with this collection- first look to the last. the mirror of classical design shines greatly upon the pieces in this collection & you can sense relativity to the pre-fall collection we’ve seen from the house of vuitton, which jacobs also creatively directs. it’s refined, it’s wild, it’s sophisticated & sharply executed. a stunningly strong direction for the fall; in love with this season’s collection beyond words. in allowing greater creativity to be felt, marc jacobs may very well be the greatest designer in new york city.

fall menswear collection, new york: antonio azzulo

a refreshing use of color adapted to clean style was seen for the FW11 menswear collection from antonio azzulo. a beautiful palette of white, caramel, washed aqua, cobalt blue & candy paint red were seen in the collection palette as colored mirror tint shades were seen on a few of the models. classic through style & design, wool trousers, striped sweaters, cotton leggings, slim fit denim & luxurious white fur were seen throughout the menswear set. elevating style for men, one look at a time- i loved the brown belted coat/pullover look in the begging & was romanticized by every fit, silhouette & style that was created this season. one of the most refreshing menswear collections of the season with classic appeal & strong direction. very well done.

fall menswear, new york: richard chai

a dark palette complimented by plaid was seen on the runways of new york fashion week by richard chai. rich with masculinity, the collection hosts a range of well tailored looks alongside more relaxed cuts, providing a variation of styles for every stylish dude. while the black & deep grey tones make up most of the collections palette, i loved the use of green & navy seen in the mid-section of the set. male models andrej peijic, jacob coupe, josh beech, keith hernandez & yuri pleskun were identified amongst the runway cast. wool was used as well as denim, allowing the collection to tap into a classic feel. i love the collection & would wear every piece that was presented. from womenswear to menswear, richard chai is a designer i greatly admire.

collection images: 3.1 phillip lim, pre-fall

interesting palette & structural grace were two outstanding elements presented for the pre-fall 2011 season for 3.1 phillip lim. a rich palette complimented with bold coral blues & greens was contrasted with vibrant  & rusted oranges, while being teamed with solid whites, soft neutrals & stoned fur. stylistically a combination of many design concepts were intersected into each look seamlessly. classic style was adapted to new age minimalism while an overwhelmingly chic set of design was seen. a completely perfect fusion of progressive design & familiar style was shown in the collections use of silhouette. the collection possessed a strength is simplicity & tailoring. clean lines ruled the set while i sat in complete awe from the first look to the last.
