shot for the april issue of french vogue, sasha pivovarova goes green through the lens of hans feuer looking wildy chic. styled by marie chaix, the spread conveys a stronger message of beauty & natural allure at that. as the first issue under the direction of new editor-in-chief, emmanuelle alt; im closely watching to see how gradually french vogue will evolve. in this spread with sasha, there is an underlying purity felt- a soft reflection of femininity & a bit of conservative, almost hushed, sense of sensuality. the shot with the green tongue adds a needed disruption of the rather tame images & clearly, a difference of carine rotifeld’s vision versus alt’s is being born in front of our very eyes. it’s edgy, alluring & very polished. sasha is represented by IMG models & remains atop my list of favorites within the modeling galaxy- here she is fresh & beautiful.

menswear collections: alexander mcqueen, spring

presenting a debut collection of sorts, the SS11 menswear collection from the alexander mcqueen label was creatively spearheaded by new label creative director, sarah burton. referred to as the ‘go to- right hand man’ of alexander mcqueen, burton has lead the womenswear division of the mcqueen brand since 2001. while the menswear collection presented here is clearly void of the imagination that we’ve come to know & love from mcqueen, the collection is a slow start to a new era. there is, without a doubt, a missing link in the evolution of fashion design in the absence of mcqueen & i wouldnt expect to feel any true sense of satisfaction this early after his passing. the collection itself, for the most part, is kept simple- no far reaching risks in design were taken & it seems as though its a respectively somber note & almost stylistically resembles an absence. while i often wonder about the fate of the label, at the present time; its clear that the label is still in the process of finding their own way without mcqueen. mcqueen’s imagination was in a league all its own & i can only imagine how much time it will take for the label to function at a level even remotely close to what it was functioning at when mcqueen was still at the helm. a solid design set, though no new ground has been broken. fashion sleeps for no one, its a machine that continues to produce.
