paris collections: fall vuitton handbags

as one of the most valued brands in the world, right after AT&T & HSBC, the fall collection presented for louis vuitton keys in to the luxury labels most valued asset- the handbag. while chicks will go broke, put themselves on wait lists & save for months on end just to cop one; the vuitton brand is known for producing statement piece handbags. this collection was no different. as an avid support of anti-bootlegging of designer goods, my interest goes beyond vanity or any form of materialism. the purchase of fake desginer goods contributes to the loss of over 250,000 jobs in america- yearly. as the most counterfeited brand globally, bogus designer fakes promote child labor, drug & sex trafficing, as well as terrorism. while we all love to look glamorous its just as important for us to respect fashion as an art form- enough to be willing to drop dime for some authentic designer shit. the collection presented for the FW10 season was nothing short of astonishing; new concepts around the signature LV monogram were matched with an assortment of other foreign textiles. different applique detailing was matched to different forms of leather; while we seen different forms of the vuitton style signatures. i think one of the most amazing aspects of the vuitton name at the current time is marc jacobs’ ability to reinvent something so classic; he has clearly redefined the vuitton name & catapulted its legacy beyond limitation without any end in sight. fashion is about evolution, progression & change- above are eight of my favorite bags from this seasons collection. the bags stole the show!

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: hermès

the hermès FW10 collection presented dark design concepts this season. while it seemed as though gaultier’s signature concepts made their way into the collection, i found the set a bit unsurprising. while the model casting was dope as expected, with lily cole opening, i wanted to see something that spoke more to hermès clientele. the collection looks reminded me of the 1971 stanley kubrick film, clockwork orange. i loved the use of leather & the top hats brought a new focus for the brand. overall, the collection was fair- i was more excited about the models than the clothes; which isnt always the best at paris fashion week.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: louis vuitton

the FW10 louis vuitton collection drew focus on classics; from the clothes to the models, it was all about the classics. supermodel commercial sweetheart, laetitia casta of IMG paris opened the show, while we seen karolina kurkova, adriana lima & lara stone following behind. the finale look was a red gown worn by iconic supermodel elle macphearson. while the clothes were completely traditional ; the textiles used gave each look a modern feel. marc jacobs worked to produce a palette filled with fall color contrasts. executed well from start to finish, the collection was strong for the fall season. i loved the bags of the collection & as usual vuitton gives women another reason to break the bank.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: elie saab

the FW10 elie saab collection was decked in black & refined with elegance. though i was bored with the sea of black gowns; as the collection progressed more & more details began to surface. simplicity morphed into extravagant details of lace & sequins; i really loved the hints of maroon within the collection as well. natasha poly opened the show, sigrid agren, kasia struss & anna selezneva followed on the runway. there was a particular interest in recreating the neckline for this collection, especially with the more detailed glitter pieces near the close of the collection. though i found the use of black useless, i really discovered an appreciation for the fashion story as i seen how dope elements of lace were used. the saab label has proved their knowledge & understanding of feminine elegance. a fair collection for the fall.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: valentino

the FW10 valentino collection emphasized ruffles & delicate silouettes this season. soft neutrals & gentle pink was matched against black & a shot of valentino red for the finale. i feel like this collection is a merge of what we’ve seen from maria grazia chiuri & pier paolo piccioli over the past three seasons. while the collections draws similarities of the SS10 couture & SS09 collections- in using spots of color; the lace & use of black draws near what we’ve seen from the FW09 collection. added with the signature valentino red for a finale  to incorporate a historical homage- you have this collection. collectively, this seasons concepts & direction make  compelete sense. its a form of progression. i love the fashion story that is told with the sequencing of each look; from white we go into transitions of fur & neutral, leading us to black with pink progressing into a firestarter finale with jac rocking valentino red.  clear vision, clear concepts. a fair collection for the fall.
