delivery from paris: magazine antidote, issue two

very few things in fashion can stop my heart like fashion editorial. in 2008, after i seen italian vogue’s all black issue- i started to take an active interest in high fashion. from paying closer attentions to models & their respective agencies, i started to pay closer attention to photographers, stylists & from there began to look at editors. over the course of time, readers have taken a journey through some of the greatest editorial moments from publications like vogue, elle & numero- internationally. as my knowledge & familiarity of fashion, as a business driven by creative genius, expands; my love for what has represented the core of fashion grows more & more intense. i feel, editorial, is the root of high fashion. editorial can, literally, turn trash into treasure & can turn the biggest runway rejects into photographic magic. they say a picture is worth a thousand words & in this day in age that has never been more true. as the readers, you have had the largest responses to editorial spreads from a number of internationally published fashion magazines. in my own attraction to aesthetic beauty, my own eye has become reshaped in viewing the work of photographers & stylists, who ultimately bring clothes to life through casting of models & the illusion of lighting & angles.

my level of expectance for dope shit at this point, is probably the highest it’s ever been since the creation of this blog. i feel like the content i’ve pulled has only shown a glimpse into what i see, in my mind, as definitive fashion. fashion to me is not about the social aspects, it’s beyond the celebrity & bigger than the hype- fashion is the process in which beauty, through design & anatomy, is made timeless. style is perspective & fashion is the foundation of that. revealed here november of 2010, the french based magazine antidote blew my mind with it’s own concept of a magazine. as a blogger, when you’re recieving email after email, hour after hour; the novelty certainly wears off while your level of selectivity becomes tested. there are dozens of spreads that are submitted each month by independent photographers, established publications & photographers on the come up, that never get published. the way i approach my selection process is simple- if i don’t have anything to say about it, im not publishing it. in many other cases, time is also a factor as is the consideration of models, stylists & photographers used. all this & the spreads or things that are published for you have some thread of association to what i love. whether that’s a bad bitch, incredible styling or something as simple as lighting- each post is it’s own entity based on the narrative that i supply you after grabbing your attention visually.

by way of editor-in-chief, yann weber, i recieved issue two of magazine antidote. while i’ve previously showed the publication in a past fashion report, im consistently blown away by the level of execution brought forth by the individuals that have created it. from model casting to photographers involved, the creation of magazine antidote is nothing less than groundbreaking. after initially getting over the shock of the size & the hardcover of the magazine when recieving issue one, my level of enthusiasm for issue two was, well..doubled. & speaking of double- magazine antidote’s issue two: the shoe issue is twice the size of american vogue’s september issue. yes, i kid you not- it’s that major. fashion publications can also be judged on their advertisers- doubts of which are quickly relinquised by the fact that elie saab’s stunning fragrance campaign starring anja rubik greets you upon cracking the binding & hermes’ fall campaign bids you farewell on the backside of the bookzine. as seen, i chose the magdalena frackowiak cover & recieved it, thinking it was so beautiful- i had to snap a couple of images. in the next series of posts, i will be including some spreads from the issue & further discussing what stands out about these spreads. a sneak of parker gregory & sigrid agren can be seen as well as a few beauty shots of the cover. shot by giampaolo sgura, i am beyond amazed & incredibly impressed by this issue. i’m also very excited to present this issues content & to have been selected as an involved participant in allowing to see something from issue one, onward.

editorialesque » malthe lund madsen + russell giardina for out

shot by giampaolo sgura, malth lund madsen & russell giardina of VNY models appear for this formal wear fashion spread from out magazine. impressively so, out magazine has drastically improved upon elements of editorial through styling & photographer bookings while at a rapid pace. given the fact that gays are a large creative force in fashion, styling & many other facets of the beauty industry- i hope that many other gay publications follow their lead to take a more active approach at capturing & representing men’s style, as well as fashion, as best seen here. while more gay publications seem distracted by sexual appeal rather than actual style, im very impressed & inspired by what is seen. styled by grant woolhead, everyone from tom ford to ferragamo is seen on the male couples backs while slight references to gay lifestyle are seen injected into a couple of the shots, while not jarringly associating with what might be considered ‘stereotypical’ gay. i love when a range of beauty & difference can be captured in a real, honest & stylized format. it’s all done with the utmost of class & sophistication.

editorialesque » anna dello russo for ten

anna dello russo is the editor at large & creative consultant for vogue nippon, in addition to being one of fashion’s greatest characters. you may have seen her through the lens of tommy ton over at jak&jil, or perhaps you’ve seen her giving commentary for style.com at many of the big named shows in paris & milan. regardless, there is room for more than one anna in the realm of fashion & this one stands in the same circle as ms. wintour. shot by giampaolo sgura, anna lands the headlining feature editorial for 10 magazine’s winter issue. shot on a white studio backdrop, dello russo appears larger than life in an array of wild costumes & chic dressings & trimmings. one thing i love about anna is her fearlessness; from the front row of a show, to being actually on the runway, anna really embodies the spirit of what makes fashion fun, glamourous & ageless. as of late, she closed for the lanvin x H&M haute couture show in new york city last week & even made a cameo appearance at the ungaro show in paris for spring fashion week. in the spread seen here, we see anna captured as her usually chic self. promoting her new fragrance, the scent of anna dello russo, her visibility has seemingly increased on a larger scale. in the world of editors add anna dello russo to your list, right next to anna wintour  & carine roitfeld.

editorialesque » gaalen, goodwins + mascarini for italian gq style

through the lens of giampaolo sgura, bastiaan van gaalen of DNA models appears alongside harry goodwins of models 1 & lucas mascarini of new york models for the FW10 issue of GQ style italy. presenting masculine sophistication, the spread spotlights slick tailoring, clean design lines & hard hitting style which provides greater refinement in the form of grooming, which was expertly done by gabriele trezzi & laura stucchi. fashion editing for the spread was done by andrea tenerani & vilnius, who did a perfect job at allowing classic menswear pieces to shine vividly. when it’s not neo-punk edge or experimental chic, menswear often goes for the faultless classics- which are done excellently here.

shot by giampaolo sgura, lea t. appears for issue no. 9 of hercules magazine with an army of male models. boasting a one of a kind theme, i admire the concept in it’s attempt to further project lea as a high fashion rarity. fashion editing for the spread was done by miguel arnau, represented by women milan, lea t. is the first transexual female model in fashion. her groundbreaking entrance into high fashion has been greatly aided by givenchy creative director, ricardo tisci. through his guidance lea has appeared for french vogue, as well as in the FW10 givenchy campaign & walked for the houses haute couture collection this past july in paris. leather, red nylon leggings & leopard print add that much more of an outstanding feel to the spread, which appears on a cocaine white studio backdrop. lea has been warmly welcomed into the grips of high fashion & is a favorite among my readers.

editorialesque » alessandra ambrosio for vogue nippon beauty

represented by elite models, alessandra ambrosio continues to defy expectation becoming a mainstay in high end editorial this year. shot by  giampaolo sgura, ambrosio appears golden drapped in emilio pucci & gold accessories. styling for the phenomenally glamour spread excellently orchestrated by anna dello russo. im extremely impressed with how consistent alessandra has been performing editorially this past year. while ambrosio joins the ranks of miranda kerr, adriana lima & selita ebanks- i’ve said it many times & will reiterate once more; the victoria’s secret angels are conquering the industry singularly & collectively. i love this spread for showcasing glamour accurately. the blue lip, the voluminous curls- everything!
