fall prêt-à-porter, paris: emanuel ungaro

it seems as though glies deacon has hit his stride for the fall as creative director of ungaro. stylish & modern use of sheer textiles, sleek silhouettes & use of leather were seen. after much turmoil including a bit of bad judgement involving a consulting job with lindsay lohan, the recruitment of glies deacon has allowed the label to enter into a new phase with a promising set of design in the last two seasons. while last season focused on floral elements, an aspect of ungaro’s heritage; intricate details were morphed alongside more sleek pieces with use of leather, opaque nylons & metallic choker collars. use of velvet, ostrich feathers, colored fur, tweet & printed satin- i really love how well all elements were combined this season. while a bit of goth was felt in the collection concepts, not one piece was void of sophistication, daring style or aesthetic beauty. deacon proves to be in the right position & im excited to see where this will allow ungaro to go. very, very pleased with this collection- super chic.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: manish arora

bold colors & outlandish style are concepts presented by manish arora for the FW11 show season at paris fashion week. as seen on rapper nicki minaj at the american music awards, arora is of indian nationality & is based in new delhi. as the creative director of pacco rabane, arora has been referred to as ‘the john galliano of india’ – anti-semetic remarks aside, it’s more of a creative reference. imaginative, outrageous & thoughtfully developed looks were seen & highlighted through use of metallics, bold tones & lavish print was seen in this stunning set. i was very impressed by how stylishly all of the elements came together with this collection; thus far in paris, this is the most exciting collection i’ve seen. silhouettes were magnified, prints expoloded & still no bit of style was spared. a beautiful collection of true creative artistry. this is next level fashion design.

fall collections, new york: prabal gurung

as karlie kloss opened the show, the FW11 direction taken by prabal gurung was instantly felt & greatly represented. a rich series red looks ensued the runways as black & white entered the collection palette. unexpectedly chic dipped furs were seen alongside sheer textiles, beautiful use of leather & impressively intricate details which broke some of the strict sophistication up a bit. deconstructed necklines, wide legged trousers & slim tailored looks were seen as well as the models walked with bold brows & multi-layered nylon stockings. as the collection progressed the palette cooled to grey & eventually to white, as shades of neutral swelled to pink; leading to beautifully beaded gowns that closed the show. creatively, the collection makes a promising mark for the FW11 season & further proves the talent & skill of prabal gurung, who has had quite the buzz in new york fashion circles both this year & last. as stunning as the show itself, the gurung girls of the fall season included, frida gustavsson, ming xi, liu wen, alla kostromichova, our beloved joan smalls, jacquelyn jablonski, patricia van de vliet, anais mali, hanne gaby odiele, valerija kelava, jourdan dunn, fei fei sun & constance jablonski in addition to this season’s opener, previously mentioned, ms. kloss. a beautiful collection of thoughtful & powerful details, a stunning approach to the fall.

lookbook images: versace atelier, fall

jac jagaciak of IMG models was cast as the star of the FW10 versace atelier collection look book. an impressive showing of design & detail, the collection hosts a wide range of colors with versatile use of tulle, fringe, beading, draping & nude sheer. a variety of silhouettes are seen as elements of the couture driven designs allow combinations of modern & classic elements to be seen. a strong showing of design for a modern fashion era that is void of powerful couture design talent; a stunning set.
