editorialesque » snejana onopka for vogue japan

classical chic is seen for the pages of vogue japan’s june issue, which sees snejana onopka through the lens of glen luchford. styled by anastasia barbieri, with hair & make-up by marc lopez & inge grognard; the spread is an inspiring set of black & white fashion pieces with incredible lighting. polished to perfection, there is something so beautiful about this ‘reluctant mistress’ spread. im leaning towards the fact that the combined elements of photography & style are fused incredibly well. there is such a strong message of sophistication, in the clothes that are pulled, in the way the make-up is applied, subtle & still a perfect accentuation. i live & love these forms of glamour that have been greatly represented here. i applaud all parties who contributed to the birth of this spread. inspired, tremendously by how sharp & chic this has been produced. represented by silent models, snejana hails from the ukraine & can be recognized from her recent vogue paris features & campaign spots with both etro & emillio pucci eyewear. obsessed with these aesthetics, for real.

abbey lee kershaw for vogue japan

represented by next models ny, abbey lee kershaw graces the july cover of vogue japan outfitted in dior. with heavy shadow & blonde locks, im on the fence about this cover; granted i’ve seen abbey kill it more beautifully than seen. with covers, i tend to lean towards more polish & it seems as though a combination of attempted edge & sophistication have failed to translate. with abbey’s blonde hair against the yellow, her blonde seems bland & the eyes over powering. granted that spring has been a major moment for yellow, concerning trend, the cover definitely grabs your attention. is it the best cover abbey has in her portfolio? not quite. but we’ll have to wait & see what else is in store inside; considering how incredible abbey’s numero cover was & how dissapointing the feature spread turned out to be, there really is no telling. im hoping that this issue isn’t as much of a false advertisment as naomi’s vogue japan cover for june, which resulted in no feature editorial. disrespectful.

editorialesque » color counts by vogue japan beauty

shot by ben hassett, vogue japan uses the basis of color for their june vogue beauty supplement. styled by patti wilson, with hair & make up by eugene souleiman & francelle; the spread sees jacquelyn jablonski morphing into different follicle formations through colorization done by colorist joshua wood. combining classic 60’s elements with a bit of punk rock edge- the spread allows bouts of contrast to pull a rather interesting end result. appearing alongside jablonski is hannah holman of elite, whom you’ve seen for the daisy eau so fresh marc jacobs fragrance campaign. represented by superme models, jacquelyn is one of the most visible faces in high fashion, having landed the fall cosmetic contract for givenchy as well as campaign bookings for max mara, tommy hilfiger & hermès. both appear beautifully for the spread dressed in prada, jean paul gaultier & jil sander.

naomi campbell for vogue japan

shot by inez + vinoodh, naomi campbell graces the june cover of vogue japan in gucci. labeled, ‘life force’ it seems as though a full force resurgence of supermodel icons is on the rise. represented by IMG, under special bookings- i lose my shit for a naomi campbell cover & this instance is no different. naomi represents this timeless appeal, this superhuman race of ultra-glamour that has fed my passion for fashion & my obsession with beauty. to see naomi still booking covers, this far into her lifetime of a career span is truly an inspiration. with campbell appearing on the runway for the FW11 louis vuitton show, when i see that naomi is out here shooting covers & shit, i immediately start to scan the vicinity for linda evangelista & christy turlington. each female model of the 90’s trinity is still, undeniably beautiful & could easily book a job on top of these other new chicks in the game. though i love my new girls, nothing tops the supermodels & when i say supermodels, you know i mean supermodels. so large a presence that it can’t be ignored, such definitive beauty that it can’t be described- i am living & fucking twirling for naomi campbell & am dying to get my hands on this issue, just off the cover. that power, that irresistable need to own the magazine because of naomi is what makes her & other females of her time, supermodels. there is no other & will never be another naomi campbell in this life. i cannot wait to see naomi’s feature editorial; my heart is going to implode.

editorialesque » kate moss for vogue japan

british supermodel icon, kate moss appears editorially for the may issue of vogue japan. styled by george cortina, with hair & make-up by paul hanlon & charlotte tibury, kate appears sophisticated in spring couture that is photographed with a mysterious edge. shot by mert & marcus, the evolution of kate moss is one interesting complexities & unexpected turns. kate moss ushered in a new generation of supermodels during the grunge era, which resulted in a modeling shift. standards became adjusted & desired looks dipped from commercial & jaw dropping beauty to ultra-thin, waif models that were looked at as transformative figures rather than individuals with natural beauty. i had the chance to see a biographical documentary on kate moss which addressed her rise to fame & time-lined how massive her influence has spread through the fashion industry since her debut on the scene in the 90’s. notorious for measuring up under industry standards standing five feet, seven inches; kate is one of few females that has been able to surpass barriers put in place by the fashion industry. one of those barriers in modeling is an expiration date, for many years it was expected that past a certain age, models should look into ‘career alternatives’ & are often times encouraged to consider, ‘life after modeling’. kate moss has spun her image into a successful presence in fashion through design work with top shop & has even designed handbags for longchamp. still a star in today’s competitive industry, kate continues to land covers, campaigns & blaze the runways occasionally- she ranks as fashion’s no. 2 icon next to gisele & ranks as fashion’s third highest earning. represented by IMG, kate is seen slightly darker, an aspect that adds dimension to the editorial & draws relativity to her grunge era entrance into modeling. kate moss is what female models aspire to become.
