russian harper’s bazaar celebrates fifteen years with fifteen covers

celebrating 15 years in print, harper’s bazaar russia releases 15 commemorative covers. covers by karl lagerfeld, ralph lauren, moschino, viktor & rolf, diane von furstenburg, dolce & gabbana, antonio marras, armani, cavalli, sonia rykiel, jean paul gaultier, missoni, michael kors, versace & pucci are all seen in this post, as each allow their own individualized signatures to shine through. 15 years in the game is significant & i love that harper’s bazaar is always pushing the envelope as far as covers are concerned. they really capitalized, internationally, when they created special subscriber’s edition covers & separate newsstand editions. while creating subscription incentive, they double their mark of creativity by selecting two dope images rather than the standard of one. while many believe that fashion publications are slowly being phased out; i always say that nothing compares to see incredible images on high gloss paper. here’s to harper’s bazaar russia for many more years to come.

fashion on film: gaga by gaultier

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: jean paul gaultier

as a testament to his creative reputation, jean paul gaultier is a leader of the pack with an individualized perception of vision & fashion theatricality. this season, gaultier plays with the concept of age & interestingly so. as the world of fashion tethers between age appropriate styling & models on the runway as 15yrs. old- gaultiers takes it to the next level with his granny chic Fw11 collection. models frida gustavsson, karlie kloss, alana zimmer, sessilee lopez, karolina kurkova, jourdan dunn, coco rocha & joan smalls were amonst the cast  that walked the runway with grey bee hive wigs clad in gaudy print, chic coats, plaid & suede. overall, the gauliter collection pokes fun while truly representing more modestly aged designs. i would’ve like to see something more fresh & something a bit more refined- in terms of vision, the collection & direction are translated perfectly.

spring couture collections: jean paul gaultier

presenting pure punk regality with hard edge detail & provocative concepts, the haute couture collection presented by jean paul gaultier for the SS11 season was one of theatricality. an aspect i love about gaultier is his level of showmanship, he’ll take any direction & sway your perception whether focusing on silver screen women of cinema or taking a direction influence by spain; gaultier’s ability to tell a story through clothes has largely contributed to his status as a design icon. for this show, models you know affectionately; magdalega frackowiak, joan smalls, frida gustavsson, lyndsey wixson, kim noorda, jac jagaciak, karolina kurkova & liu wen all appeared for this over the top showcase of black gowns & mohawks. while i lean more towards the feeling of enchantment during couture show season, i admire the vision of gaultier & can do nothing but bow while on my knees to this all-star model cast. from elements that may not be noticed at first glance to concepts that grab you & require a second look- this set is powerful. overall, the vision is clearly translated & creatively pronounced over the course of the show; beauty elements of strong cat-eyed elements were matched to dark lips- a wide range of element were fused together for this collection. a strong showing for the house of gaultier, a house that i respect immensely.

menswear collections: jean paul gaultier, fall

as a visual representation of james bond in the midst of transformation, the jean paul gauliter collection presented today in paris is one of incredible direction. imaginative & interesting through concept & inspiring by execution, the collection presents every dimension needed for a proper james bond homage. with andrej pejic walking the runway, his androgynous features allowed even the dimensions of a bond girl to be adapted to the collection. beginning on a classical note with miguel iglesias dressed in a tux, the collection progresses to a throng of looks that impressively incorporate scuba gear while slowly introducing gold to the collection palette towards the end. the gold pieces of the collection provide a feel of  ‘golden eye’ as andrej closed the show draped in fur, almost unrecognizably resembeling a bond girl. a beautiful vision & thoughtful concept; it’s this theatricality that has allowed gaultier to become the living legend that he is in the world of fashion. incredibly ill.
