in a surprising redirection, missoni presented a soft palette for the fall in milan. adapting a fresh set of design to their signature knits, i found the FW11 collection refreshing in it’s use of floral elements, combined with plaid, fur & even use of snake skin. i admit, i had expected shades of brown & orange- you know, the same old missoni we’ve seen for multiple seasons, it seems. i appreciate the unexpected turn of creativity & applaud the forms of innovation shown in each concept that allows the missoni label to take on, yet another, style dimension. while other labels have opted for heavily black palette notes with bold contrasts, the missoni label opts for subdued tones. i loved the complex concepts adapted to the collections sweaters & am always looking to see what other aspects of knitwear become explored by the italian based, family owned designer label. all the creative limits i had thought restricted the label were shattered & thoughtfully reintroduced this season. cosmetically, models walked the runway with pasty skin & a powerful dark red statement lip. overall, strong direction, well executed.
