fall collezioni, milan: missoni

in a surprising redirection, missoni presented a soft palette for the fall in milan. adapting a fresh set of design to their signature knits, i found the FW11 collection refreshing in it’s use of floral elements, combined with plaid, fur & even use of snake skin. i admit, i had expected shades of brown & orange- you know, the same old missoni we’ve seen for multiple seasons, it seems. i appreciate the unexpected turn of creativity & applaud the forms of innovation shown in each concept that allows the missoni label to take on, yet another, style dimension. while other labels have opted for heavily black palette notes with bold contrasts, the missoni label opts for subdued tones. i loved the complex concepts adapted to the collections sweaters & am always looking to see what other aspects of knitwear become explored by the italian based, family owned designer label. all the creative limits i had thought restricted the label were shattered & thoughtfully reintroduced this season. cosmetically, models walked the runway with pasty skin & a powerful dark red statement lip. overall, strong direction, well executed.

fall collezioni, milan: trussardi 1911

presented off-runway, the trussardi 1911 collections are always a sight to see. this season, similar concepts are presented as a palette of nude, black & red for contrast are added to a design filled with sleek leathers, sophisticated fur all with true italian style. creatively directed by milan vukmirovic, i love the modern approach to innovative style in combining a wide range of beautiful details like sheer textiles, leather handbags, leopard print alongside beautiful silhouettes. although i didn’t favor the gowns of at the close of the collection, the rest of the collection gave me such inspiration for style & a greater appreciation for the art of fashion design. though stylish & casual, the designs seen here are a combination of all the aspects i look for in fashion- bold concepts created with a minimal aesthetic & slight dramatization of classical style. stunningly stylish.

fall collezioni, milan: marni

60’s prints, bold color & sleek design were presented by the house of marni this fall in milan. tribal influenced concepts were seen as wild print & heavily textured pieces walked the runway, adding creative dimension to the womenswear set. beautiful use of color, leather & stylish gloves were some of the collections headlining elements. one aspect of the collection that negatively affected the runway presentation was the hair & make-up chosen. undone, sloppy & seemingly oily with loose waves- hair is a large component of beauty, when looking to produce a vision of beauty. outside the lacking aspects of beauty, the collection is strong in it’s message of bold & modern design that somehow simultaneously resonates with a classic feel.

fall collezioni, milan: versus

strict style & a dark palette allow the versus collection to thrive in it’s youthful approach to fashion design. with a perfect balance of flash & depth, the collection is gradual in it’s release of metallic triangular patterns, that really taps into a surprising direction of creativity which could only be credited to christopher kane. kane was picked by donatella versace to design the versus collection, which is, literally, the sister collection to the versace mainline. the versus collection was notoriously designed by donatella while the versace mainline was designed her brother gianni, whom created the versace label in 1978. when gianni was murdered in 1997, the house of versace rested in the creative grips of donatella who has a wildly successful run succeeding her older brother. the versus collection has been one of the most anticipated in my book. christopher kane is an incredible design in his own right & to combine his genius with that of donatella’s is one of the best collaborations in modern day fashion. here we see a much more developed collection than the last two seasons, being that presentations were used as the main vehicle present the collections. structure & caged element were outstanding elements of the collection & im still waiting to christopher kane really flex his design muscle with these collections. this is just the tip of the iceberg.
