arizona muse for vogue paris

appearing for the cover of french vogue, november, arizona muse of next models ny smiles from ear to ear as an unexpected beauty shot is selected. through the lens of inez + vinoodh, arizona appears beautifully. i’ve noted here many times that vogue paris is one publication that im keeping my eye on. granted, french vogue has always been considered ‘one to watch’, the selection of cover models by way of editor-in-chief, emmanuelle alt, is a huge conversational piece. frist came gisele, then came kate moss who was followed by isabeli fontana & then lara stone. a break in model cast was seen when charlotte casiraghi landed the september issue cover & sasha pivovarova landed october. now in november, muse makes her debut. it’s funny, i watch these girls come into the game- i watch them on the runway, keep tabs on their bookings from campaigns to covers & editorials. from cosmetic contracts to catalog bookings- i cannot understand, for the life of me, why the FUCK joan smalls has not landed a solo v0gue cover yet. arizona muse debuted on the runway in 2010 & slaughtered the scene as the face of YSL for the labels SS11 campaign. from there, her bookings have not stopped but other girls in the game have held much more impressive resume’s considerably. the last time a face of color has been seen on the cover of french vogue was in march of 2010, since then lara stone has landed the cover four times, with natasha poly & kate moss landing two covers from then up until now. are there not enough models to go around? & even more interestingly, shouldn’t all things be considered when casting a girl for a cover? you know, how many years they’ve been in the game- how visible they are, what they represent in terms of reshaping how global beauty is precieved? why are all shades not represented?

editorialesque » sigrid agren + parker gregory for magazine antidote

as you seen previewed in my delivery from paris post, magazine antidote is the latest & greatest fashion publication to arrive on the scene. as one of my absolute favorite spreads from the issue, through the styling of yann weber, magazine antidote editor-in-chieft & with hair & make-up by christoph hasenbein & adrien pinault; we see parker gregory of click models alongside sigrid agren of next models ny. titled, “beauty & the beast” the spread is intended to tribute the work of legendary fashion photographer richard avedon. shot by giampaolo sgura, the spread focuses on the issues theme of shoes while beautiful contrast is seen in the form of parker’s sculpted physique & sigrid’s ethereal movements which are captured throughout the editorial. simple, clean & beautiful- this is what fashion editorial is all about. a well executed moment for the already outstanding second issue. love this, entirely. all creative elements are perfect.

editorialesque » karlie kloss for vogue

american vogue darling, karlie kloss of next models ny blazes the september issue of vogue through the lens of mario testino. paying tribute to fashion’s recent eastern influence, kloss appears wig’ed & wonderful for the issue in a dramatic spread that is jawdropping by page number. i’ve always said, if one american supermodel deserves to be on the cover of american vogue, a feat which very rarely ever happens, that girl should be karlie kloss. dominating runway, campaigns & yes, editorial- kloss has demonstrated skill unlike any other female model in the game recently. for the september issue, kloss is seen in a chinese setting & looks ravishing as the main chick in her own solo spread, but it makes me wonder- why was an asian model not used for this spread?  was putting karlie in the spread an attempt to make china more acceptable in the american market? while a crop of asian models appears for vogue china, isn’t fashion diversification much more successful when it’s seen across the board? overall, karlie has undeniable photographic presence & shines in the spread- but i can’t help but think how dope this would’ve been with liu wen or shu pei. images by mario testino, with styling by tonne goodman.

abbey lee kershaw for vogue japan

represented by next models ny, abbey lee kershaw graces the july cover of vogue japan outfitted in dior. with heavy shadow & blonde locks, im on the fence about this cover; granted i’ve seen abbey kill it more beautifully than seen. with covers, i tend to lean towards more polish & it seems as though a combination of attempted edge & sophistication have failed to translate. with abbey’s blonde hair against the yellow, her blonde seems bland & the eyes over powering. granted that spring has been a major moment for yellow, concerning trend, the cover definitely grabs your attention. is it the best cover abbey has in her portfolio? not quite. but we’ll have to wait & see what else is in store inside; considering how incredible abbey’s numero cover was & how dissapointing the feature spread turned out to be, there really is no telling. im hoping that this issue isn’t as much of a false advertisment as naomi’s vogue japan cover for june, which resulted in no feature editorial. disrespectful.

through the lens of li zi, li zi feng of long teng models china appears for the SS11 GQ style china issue. styled by dan cui & jojo quian, the spread focuses on sandals for the summer & spring on the shore of a beach. creative angles allow this spread to draw focus more upon the footwear as we see designs by givenchy, bottega veneta, gucci & vuitton. li zi feng is among the new crop of asian male models & he’s had noted editorial presence in china with chinese based fashion publications harper’s bazaar china, elle china, uno & esquire. in the rise of asian demands, both in luxury markets & on the runway, li zi feng was amongst the cast of males who walked for prada’s exclusive beijin show as well as a spot on the runway for ermenegildo zegna, whose collection was inspired by the orient. as a rising force in modeling, feng is still considerably under the radar. recently signed to next models ny, feng & his boyish features will also appear in V magazine’s upcoming asian issue.

editorialesque » anja rubik for vogue japan

represented by next models ny, anja rubik appears for the june issue of vogue japan. combined elements of punk & androgyny are seen meshed with bold use of color & edgy, almost undone forms of styling & grooming. rebellious & excessive- anja showcases true versatility in the spread outfitted in masculine pieces from spring collections by balenciaga, balmain & prada. from mesh tanks to heavily adorned jackets- the spread & vision of punk attitude is translated both clearly & beautifully. a standout collection of not only the season but in terms of direction, the balenciaga SS11 collection has remained one of the most outstanding for it’s hard edged approach of androgyn- largely the focus of this spread, the collection provides a stunning style foundation for what is seen here. photographic credit for this spread goes to josh olins, styling by sissy vian.
