collection images: yigal azrouël, resort

remaining in a lane all his own, the yigal azrouël 2012 resort collection is one of relaxed silhouettes, bold tones & refined aesthetics. i loved the range of colors used & appreciate the air of effortlessness that is represented in the collections shapes & design lines. theres something very fluid about the azrouël aesthetic. based in new york but born in israel & of french-morrocan ethnicity, a theme of exotic inspiration is felt more often than not from the yigal collections. overall, the collection showcases a strong continuation of what’s been seen in the past few seasons. a commendable effort for the pre-season; sophisticated & versatile while not isolating any one group of consumers. love the palette, tremendously.

collection images: badgley mischka, resort

mark badgley & james mischka present refined fashion pieces for the resort 2011 season. though there is a visual struggle with cohesion & overall execution through vision, the collection does manage to produce elegance in design. colors that pop were seen alongside white & neutral fashion pieces; use of metallic beading & animal print were also seen in the collection. the fact that so many design aspects were packed into one collection really impacted the representation of flow; though the collection has great design, i would necessarily group them all together as seen. that said, there is a great attention to detail in each look, singlulary. an overall fair collection for the pre-season. cute pieces but not entirely as coordinated as one would expect.

collection images: issac mizrahi, resort

i’ve always felt that issac mizrahi displays a certain disconnect from what other designers are doing in fashion. while the disconnection can play both a negative & a positive role- the designs can appear as original; free from outside influence or appear as void of any real fashion relativity. the mizrahi collection created for the resort 2011 pre-season displays no form of cohesion, as i found it difficult to understand the color story & overall vision for the collection. though versatility was shown from look to look, the collections display an out of place structure in design. each look is different & at times too different. i believe that each look within a collection should relate; what is the story? what is the inspiration behind these looks & pieces- why these colors? these questions remained unanswered for me in reviewing this set. however, i greatly respect issac mizrahi as a fashion alum. that said, i honestly feel that this collection could use a few adjustments to see major improvements.

collection images: proenza schouler, resort

again tapping into academic youth for their designs, the proenza schouler label creates a really thoughtful resort collection for 2011. while the collection enters with a pop & flash- the collection concepts use print & palette very well. black & navy is threaded all throughout the collection from start to finish with designs that appear as a cross between retro-modern & vintage-glam. the schouler label has really created a solid signature in high end fashion; from their bags to their collection garments- its cohesion, full force- beginning to end. the collection comes out punching with color & ends with a neutral base, but still contains enough depth to hold your interest. grooming is kept simple & low key as casual ponytails are used to remove folicule distraction from what we came to see- the clothes. love the collection, super chic & hella cute.

collection images: céline, cruise

as we see full results of phoebe philo’s take over & basically reconstruction of the céline brand, the cruise collection produced by the french womenswear label forecasts a renewed vision in design. clean design lines contribute to the minmal elements of the collection, while the use of accessories contributes to the label’s commercial consumer; punches of color in addition to the collections use of print are done very well. the collection successfully accomplishes a role in creating a collection that is forward enough yet still respects the classic notes of style. the collection is simple, chic & stunning.

collection images: marc jacobs, resort

the quirky nature of marc jacobs comes through in the presentation of marc’s namesake label for the resort 2011 pre-season. style notes of retro-glam are seen in the collection as top hats cover the eyes of selected models. black, whites & neutrals are well balanced with hushed tones of bright colors in & throughout the collection. marc’s work between louis vuitton & his own namesake fashion ventures; there is always an air of relativity, some form of design correlation. i find similar design concepts between the marc jacobs resort collection & the balenciaga pre-season set; its those same retro design elements. the collection has a bit more of a girly-girl feeling to it, in comparison to the other collections. overall, the collection displays elevated levels of cohesion & a clear vision in design. marc jacobs is already a living legend & to create something as solid as this in the pre-season, we can only imagine what his label will present for the upcoming summer/spring 2011 fashion season.
