collection images: bally, resort

with their swiss heritage looking to be refocused upon in the event of switching creative directors, the bally label presents their 2012 resort collection with a basis of clean, sophisticated style. while most of the collection is made up of leather, the collection seemingly draws more focus upon it’s accessories component. though nothing groundbreaking is seen, the collection remains incredibly modern. a bit bland in terms of palette, the collection borders boring in their simplification & void of design details. clean & classical style with modern influence.

collection images: preen, resort

elusively modern, the preen 2012 resort collection dabbles into current trends with their use of yellow as the labels signature of print is well represented; in an effort to represent continuity from what we’ve seen on the runway. complimented by natural lighting in the collection set of images, the preen label was created by justin thornton & thea bregazzin in 1996. while still a developing label in the midst of fashion’s digital globalization; the collections of the preen label have been described as ‘cool sophistication’ & nothing rings more true to that descriptive than this collection. beautiful attention to silhouette, mindful use of color & sharp execution throughout. a wide range of looks with beautiful details & minimalist design accents.

collection images: theyskens theory, resort

while noticeably more commercialized in concept, olivier theyskens reveals his lastest design collection under the theory label for the 2012 resort pre-season. one interesting aspect i keep seeing as a recurring theme with the theyskens theory hybrid collection is that of lines. while most collections are ruled by these lines & forms of structure, there seems to be an exaggeration or accentuation to the way olivier has approach these collections over the past couple of seasons. while i can appreciate the approach taken with this more mainstream design opportunity, i feel as though the creative expression of olivier is somewhat restricted. though solid, no breaks in creativity or motions of going above & beyond are seen. i love that the collection images were shot in paris & appreciate that from the last two seasons, there seems to be consistency but i want olivier to be able to break free & to really change the game in ways he wasn’t able to, being involved with others houses.

collection images: burberry prorsum, resort

perhaps one of the strongest labels in fashion, let alone in london, burberry presents their 2012 resort collection. shot in paris, the collection continues down the path they’ve created in the last couple of seasons; combining classical aspects of their own heritage with that of more modern design perspective. i loved the use of palette in the collection- the entrance of neutrals that soon burned to a set of yellows that managed to cool to tones of blue & green, ending in plum & navy tones. as demonstrated in the past, christopher bailey has a very strong direction in his work with burberry & the two have proved to be a perfect fit. accessories have a noticeable presence in the collection which goes to show you how mindful the london based label is in terms of a marketing presence. beautiful color story, very inspiring. super excited to see what burberry presents for SS12.

collection images: dkny, resort

as i’ve spoken on lightly in my review of the michael kors resort collection; it seems as though new york’s biggest designers are throwing down this pre-season. as seen with de la renta, kors & yes DKNY, the casual style counterpart to the donna karan mainline, larger scaled collections have been created for this mid-way of a fashion season known as the cruise/resort season. downtown, uptown, day & night- all looks are represented here as a range of colors are used that allow the collection to tap into larger, broader age ranges for all types of women. while nothing particularly stunning is seen, the collection accomplishes it’s goal in suppling consumers slightly below the donna karan price point, with options for vacations & cruises.

collection images: rachel zoe, resort

known for her love of all things vintage, super stylist rachel zoe clearly defines her presence & vision as a designer for the resort pre-season. a wide ranged palette accented by dramatic silhouettes is seen as zoe’s own style is seen clearly translated & vividly executed. what’s particularly interesting & most inspiring is the range of styles that have been created. i find no limitation or restriction on age with what was presented, which is also quite impressive- considering how new the rachel zoe collections are to high end fashion. while i take aspects of design & execution as inspiration; i will say that nothing see here is new or refreshing. rather, it seems as though zoe has become that much more greatly defined, in style, by her work. it’s as if her design signature has become more sharp, more pronounced. while all of this is exciting, im wondering what trends zoe will be able to create outside of the vintage realm. promising, yes. groundbreaking? not quite. i’ll hold out for show season.

collection images: erdem, resort

as resort collections return, in triplicate, following last weeks set of reviews erdem casts guienevere van seenus for their resort 2012 collection images. seen on a teal blue backdrop, the collection hosts a wide range of concepts all threaded through a common approach to style. brought to life through the imaginative mind of erdem moralioğlu, the erdem label is based in london, while the designer himself was born in montreal, canada. after completion of a masters degree in 2003, the erdem label quickly shot off in london, following a string of accolades from fashion’s most prestigious entities. in 2005, erdem was awarded the fashion fringe award, which followed with 2007’s swarovski british fashion council fashion enterprise award. in 2008, the label was awarded the BFC’s fashion award, in 2009 the fashion future award & just last year took the price for the british fashion council/vogue designer fashion fund award. all this & erdem was hailed as 1 of 1000 of the most influential people by the evening standard. for the resort pre-season, a refined direction is both represented & felt as the british based label clearly defines sharp tailoring & interesting design. use of floral print, navy lace & contrasts of red & orange are seen as the collection taps into a refined, modern direction. impressive, as yet, for a pre-season collection & im very excited to see what the lable has in store for the SS12 show season. solid set of design, sophisticated as ever.
