fall prêt-à-porter, paris: givenchy

the always impressive house of givenchy presented a bit of kitty accented style on the runways of paris fashion week this season. use of sheer textile, leather layering & some familiar use of print was seen. what i love about the house of givenchy are their new established signatures; each season we see slight progression of developed concepts that allow cohesion to be seen from season to season. no concept is off limits & this season tisci & the house developed cat eared caps that were seen on just about every female model on the runway. while i hadn’t expected kitty ears- i love how stylishly the concept was executed & am sure that the hats will be one of the most desired pieces for FW11, later this year. with a runway accented by purple floral, the same purple print was seen on the collections pieces that were designed in satin & showcased modest style. masculine edge was fused to feminine seduction as blazers were seen alongside sheer tops & exposed bras. chain linked framing was added to the collections varsity letterman inspired styles, pieces that i love most from givenchy for both men & women, as well as prints with panthers framed by floral garlands. i admire the vision of creative director, riccardo tisci greatly & appreciate his contrasting of hard & soft aspects of beauty. use of soft leather was seen against more outrageous styles of patent leather as layering took a larger presence toward the back end of the collection. though mostly black, the collections details had no problem being showcased & weren’t any less outstanding. a single look in yellow added the right amount of color break in the otherwise dark collection near the finale. overall, the collection finds ways to adapt use of print to a fresh set of design that is both masculine & feminine.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: loewe

madrid based design label, loewe has always been a label that i’ve watched. stunning use of leather, sleek style & sophisticated silhouettes were presented as clean design ruled the FW11 collection. beautiful beaded details, simulated crochet prints & contrasts of bold tones were seen throughout as models walked the runway with statement lips & natural faces. i love that the collection is stylish & modest, but still very sexy in the way of shape. void of plunging necklines, sheer textiles or any other obvious forms of seduction- construction & beautiful design additions of fur, color, cut & details really allow the collection to derive from minimalism but to creatively surpass it. a very strong direction was shown, inspiringly beautiful.

fall prêt-à-porter, paris: hussein chalayan

known for his lavish gowns & extraordinary approach to fashion design, hussein chalayan presents his FW11 ready-to-wear collection for paris fashion week. shot against a darkened studio backdrop with fog, the collection is one of sleek structure & forward fashion concepts. relaxed fit blazers with exaggerated lapels & plunging necklines allow the collection to take a strong style direction instantly, with the first look. as a graduate of centrail saint martins college of art & design in london, chalayan has been working in fashion since the mid-90’s; working with artist björk & collecting creative accolades along the way. beautifully layered drapping & relaxed silhouettes were the headlining element of this collection, the palette was kept simple with hints of grey, eggshell & a bit of print alongside navy & black. the collection is one of clean & modern aesthetic. i look forward to see more ready to wear collections from chalayan. promising collection with a cohesive vision from start to finish.

fall collezioni, milan: trussardi 1911

presented off-runway, the trussardi 1911 collections are always a sight to see. this season, similar concepts are presented as a palette of nude, black & red for contrast are added to a design filled with sleek leathers, sophisticated fur all with true italian style. creatively directed by milan vukmirovic, i love the modern approach to innovative style in combining a wide range of beautiful details like sheer textiles, leather handbags, leopard print alongside beautiful silhouettes. although i didn’t favor the gowns of at the close of the collection, the rest of the collection gave me such inspiration for style & a greater appreciation for the art of fashion design. though stylish & casual, the designs seen here are a combination of all the aspects i look for in fashion- bold concepts created with a minimal aesthetic & slight dramatization of classical style. stunningly stylish.

fall collezioni, milan: gianfranco ferré

beautifully minimal with inspiring construction of classic fall pieces, the FW11 collection presented by gianfranco ferré is one of stunning concepts. as i was initially romanticized by the collections use of soft neutrals at the front end of the show sequence, the collections use of darker tones of purple, grey & navy added dimension to the set, in avoidance of making a dulled set of watered down shades. clean lines were greatly represented as multi-lapel layered coats were the headlining concept for me. i love nothing more in design than strict lines & a clean aesthetic- two aspects which were presented all thoughout this collection. while i was not as inspired by the collections use of metallics, i applaud the attempt & cohesion felt through those included elements. appropriate for fall, creative director, roberto rimondi paid close attention to long design lines, which were a theme of the collection. all the style elements were covered while not doing too much, rather just enough. i love the collection & am expecting a campaign that will mirror the same aesthetic of cleanliness seen here.
