fall shwpckg: new york model men, new york

with expected bookings from known faces matthias lauridsen, thiago santos & ty oagunkoya; admittedly, i am not as familiar with the men of new york models as much as other new york based agencies. while i’ve seen images of mark westinghouse floating around the fashion blogosphere, robbie wadge has appeared for bennetton, barney’s & burberry’s golf campaign in the past, charlie france is right there with wadge appearing for burberry through look books & campaigns while sweden’s alexander johansson appeared alongside lara stone for the CK SS11 campaign. lucas mascarini has appeared for lacoste, as well as editorial spots with hercules, italian GQ & german GQ style. while many of the faces fit the bill for high end markets, none are particularly outstanding aside from thiago, ty & mathias. we’ll see who books which shows for the fall season.

menswear collection: salvatore ferragamo, fall

while other designers have opted for a color palette of bold choices in unexpected areas of design, like the inner lining of coats; the salvatore ferragamo collection creates one of the most beautiful color stories of the fall season, in milan. beginning with a light base of neutrals, bone & skin toned designs, the collection slowly begins to heat to rusted oranges burning to brown; ultimately cooling through use of green teal & deep rooted aqua. shades, big brimmed fedora’s, suede coats, use of leather were all elements interlaced into this season’s collection, which proves to be a beautiful addition to the ferragamo archives.

editorialesque » human canvas by thomas paquet

what yo’ name iz? brad alphonso, david agbodji, nil hoppenot, simon nygard, thiago santos

through the lens of thomas paquet, wad magazine hosts an artistic editorial under the title, “human canvas”. appropriately so, the spread takes a simple editorial & allows it to resonate on a greater level of creativity with the use of mixed media against standard editorial imagery. through masculine styling by azadeh zoraghi, we see each of the five males in denim pieces with combat boots, suspenders & even with bare feet. while the mixed media interpretation is a headling element here, the spread achieves it’s goal to present a fresh take through male editorial. as classic as the style standards for men are- more room for experimenation is allowed. a thrilling use of concept & originality is seen here. one of my favorite spreads of the past year.

what yo’ name iz? evandro soldati, andre ziehe, thiago santos, marlon teixeira, arthur sales

as we anticipate the premiere issue of made in brazil magazine, models.com debuted this images from the first issue as an exclusive. while made in brazil originates as a blog, comprised entirely of male & female models from brazil, i am standing while applauding what we see for the first issue. kept simple, clean & authentically brazilian; we see masculinity & beauty showcased extremely well. as the focus of this exclusive preview is geared towards men, female supermodels gisele bündchen, raquel zimmermann, caroline trentini, isabeli fontana, adriana lima & alesandra ambrosio are some of the top names & faces you not only know, but love. im very excited that a dope blog has transitioned to print publication. images for the publication are photographically credited to cristiano madureira. amazing preview, definitely something to look out for.

fall collections, new york: y-3

presenting a dual showcase of menswear & womenswear, yohji yamamoto presents his modern take on sportswear for the FW10 show season. the collection fell short of my expectations; i can appreciate the simplistic designs but in that same sense, that simplicity treads boredom. i understand that labels & teams are working to present timeless & commercial shit for the fall but that doesnt mean pull back on creativity. we have seen that shots of unexpected colors have been a current trend for the fall, but here it seems like just another cheap shot taken to wake us up from the nap that we took during the collection. i have always loved the Y-3 design concepts & that being said, my expectations of what is to be seen each season sits on the top shelf. this season fell short for me; but i did enjoy the model casting with cameos from thiago santos & eniko mihalik- but it takes more than models.
